Influence of Fuel Premixing on Partially Premixed Flames in Porous-Wall Channels

International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation, 2017
Abstract This paper examines the influence of mixing a fuel with an oxidizer-rich reactant on the existence and propagation of partially premixed flames formed in a porous-wall channel. The amount of the injected fuel has been taken as a parameter to generate different states of the combustion mixtures.

LES of Partially Premixed Combustion

2002
Numerical studies devoted to partially premixed combustion are first reviewed. Then a Large Eddy Simulation procedure is proposed for these flames when they develop in turbulent flows. The corresponding subgrid combustion modeling is tested for the case of a turbulent lifted-flame.

Combustion of partially premixed spray jets

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2005
Abstract Gas turbines, liquid rocket motors, and oil-fired furnaces utilize the spray combustion of continuously injected liquid fuels. In most cases, the liquid spray is mixed with an oxidizer prior to combustion, and further oxidizer is supplied from the outside of the spray to complete diffusion combustion.

NO formation in counterflow partially premixed flames

Combustion and Flame, 2007
An experimental and computational study of NO formation in low-strain-rate partially premixed methane counterflow flames is reported. For progressive fuel-side partial premixing the peak NO concentration increased and the NO distribution along the stagnation streamline broadened.

Partial premixing in diffusion flame quenching

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 2001
AbstractUsing Direct Numerical Simulation, we focus on the development of partial premixing in laminar diffusion flame quenching. Calculations are performed in the configuration of a 2‐D diffusion flame squeezed by a pair of vortices. First, the flame undergoes strong finite rate chemistry effects, linked to high levels of strain rate induced by ...

Partially premixed diffusion flamelets in non-premixed turbulent combustion

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1985
The structure and extinction of partially premixed diffusion flamelets in a turbulent flow field is analyzed. It is shown that diffusion flamelets are disconnected if the variation of the mixture fraction around stoichiometric is large enough for the corresponding adiabatic flame temperature to be less than a characteristic freezing temperature. At the

Partial premixing and stratification in turbulent flames

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2015
Abstract This paper reviews recent advances in understanding the structure of turbulent partially premixed and stratified flames. The term “partially premixed” refers here to compositionally inhomogeneous mixtures that include flammable and non-flammable fluid while “stratified” combustion refers to a reacting front propagating through a range of ...

Combustion Modeling of Partially Premixed Flames

Volume 2: Combustion, Fuels and Emissions, Parts A and B, 2010
Accurate and properly validated turbulence-chemistry interaction models for RANS combustion computational fluid dynamics (CCFD) simulations are required in support of the development process of modern gas turbine combustors. Although standard models are available for fully premixed and purely non premixed turbulent combustion, models describing ...

Emissions and Soot in Partially Premixed Combustion

2014
Practical combustion systems typically undergo non-premixed mode of combustion, in which the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber, which already has compressed air. The emissions tend to be high in this diffusion mode of combustion as compared to premixing mode.

Turbulent non-premixed combustion in partially premixed diffusion flamelets with detailed chemistry

Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1988
The formulation of an extended laminar flamelet model of non-premixed turbulent combustion is developed. The microscopic elements in the turbulent ensemble are taken as laminar diffusion flamelets that are distinguished by the extent of stretching to which they are exposed and, additionally, by the degree to which their reactants are premixed ...
