Partially Premixed Combustion in Lifted Turbulent Jets
Combustion Science and Technology, 2000This article reports observations of structures consistent with triple flame reaction zones in the stabilization region of turbulent nonpremixed jet flames. Previous studies of laminar mixing layers and nonpremixed jets show Hi brachial structures, however reports of triple flame structures in turbulent flowfields are sparse, The asymmetric coflow ...

Modeling partially premixed turbulent combustion
2001This paper investigates the process of partially premixed turbulent combustion in situations where the fuel is provided either as a liquid spray or a purely gaseous stream. In the former case, two-dimensional direct numerical simulations in association with a Lagrangian solver for the dispersed vaporizing phase are employed.

Partially premixed diffusion flamelets in non-premixed turbulent combustion
Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1985The structure and extinction of partially premixed diffusion flamelets in a turbulent flow field is analyzed. It is shown that diffusion flamelets are disconnected if the variation of the mixture fraction around stoichiometric is large enough for the corresponding adiabatic flame temperature to be less than a characteristic freezing temperature. At the

Model Predictive Control of Partially Premixed Combustion
2010Partially premixed combustion is a compression ignited combustion strategy where high exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) levels in combination with early or late injection timing result in a prolonged ignition delay yielding a more premixed charge than with conventional diesel combustion. With this concept it is possible to get low smoke and NOx emissions

Turbulent non-premixed combustion in partially premixed diffusion flamelets with detailed chemistry
Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1988The formulation of an extended laminar flamelet model of non-premixed turbulent combustion is developed. The microscopic elements in the turbulent ensemble are taken as laminar diffusion flamelets that are distinguished by the extent of stretching to which they are exposed and, additionally, by the degree to which their reactants are premixed ...

Triple flames and partially premixed combustion in autoignition of non-premixed turbulent mixtures
Symposium (International) on Combustion, 1996The present work deals with autoignition of non-premixed turbulent mixtures. The objective is to study the possible role that partially premixed combustion may play in the propagation of ignition. First, a physical picture based on simple considerations and describing the structure of the flame very early after ignition is discussed.

Partially premixed flamelets in LES of nonpremixed turbulent combustion
Combustion Theory and Modelling, 2002Partially premixed flames are observed in nonpremixed turbulent combustion when fuel and oxidizer have mixed before burning. This combustion regime combines the properties of both premixed and diffusion flames. A procedure based on the resolved fields is proposed to associate premixed and diffusion flame descriptions in large eddy simulation.
