Influence of Fuel Premixing on Partially Premixed Flames in Porous-Wall Channels

International Journal of Nonlinear Sciences and Numerical Simulation, 2017
Abstract This paper examines the influence of mixing a fuel with an oxidizer-rich reactant on the existence and propagation of partially premixed flames formed in a porous-wall channel. The amount of the injected fuel has been taken as a parameter to generate different states of the combustion mixtures.

Flame Structure Interactions and State Relationships in an Unsteady Partially Premixed Flame

AIAA Journal, 1998
In this investigation our objective is 1 ) to compare the similitude between an unsteady, two-dimensional (axisymmetric), partially premixed e ame and an analogous steady, partially premixed e amelet to determine if state relationshipsintermsofamodie edconservedscalarapplyand2 )toinvestigatee amestructureinteractionsbetween the various reaction zones ...

Partially premixed flames in stagnating turbulence: The merging of planar triple flames

Combustion and Flame, 2008
Abstract The aim of this work, which takes a RANS perspective, is to consider the prospect of establishing a planar turbulent triple flame whose mean consists of two parallel premixed flame brushes separated by a nonpremixed flame brush. Experiments involving a counterflow between fuel-rich and fuel-lean turbulent streams are considered.

Combustion Modeling of Partially Premixed Flames

Volume 2: Combustion, Fuels and Emissions, Parts A and B, 2010
Accurate and properly validated turbulence-chemistry interaction models for RANS combustion computational fluid dynamics (CCFD) simulations are required in support of the development process of modern gas turbine combustors. Although standard models are available for fully premixed and purely non premixed turbulent combustion, models describing ...

Fuel effects on NOx emissions in partially premixed flames

Combustion and Flame, 2004
Abstract The requirement to significantly reduce NOx and particulate emissions while maintaining combustor performance is one of the main drivers for internal combustion engine research. Partially premixing and using fuel blends represent two promising approaches for reducing both the NOx and the particulate emissions from flames.

Structure and extinction of heptane/air partially premixed flames

AIAA Journal, 2002
A numerical investigation of the structure and extinction of n-heptane/air partially premixed e ames in a countere ow cone guration is reported. The e ame is computed using a detailed reaction mechanism consisting of 275 elementary reactions and 41 species.

Partial premixing and stratification in turbulent flames

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2015
Abstract This paper reviews recent advances in understanding the structure of turbulent partially premixed and stratified flames. The term “partially premixed” refers here to compositionally inhomogeneous mixtures that include flammable and non-flammable fluid while “stratified” combustion refers to a reacting front propagating through a range of ...

Edge flames and partially premixed combustion in diffusion flame quenching

Combustion and Flame, 2001
The aim is to focus on the development of partially premixed combustion after diffusion flame quenching. To this end, the quenching of a planar two-dimensional diffusion flame is studied by using numerical simulation. A flame hole is obtained by submitting the reaction zone to a high strain and scalar dissipation rate resulting from the interaction ...

An experimental study of partially premixed flame sound

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2005
Abstract The occurrence of oscillating combustion and combustion instability has led to resurgence of interest in the causes, mechanisms, suppression, and control of combustion noise. Noise generated by enclosed flames is of greater practical interest but is more complicated than that by open flames, which itself is not clearly understood.

A study of partially premixed unconfined propane flames

Combustion and Flame, 1994
Unconfined turbulent partially premixed propane/air flames issuing from a straight tube into quiescent air at atmospheric pressure and temperature are investigated. Experiments on lifted flames are performed. Flame height and liftoff are reported together with emission indices for oxides of nitrogen (NO[sub 3]).
