An experimental study of partially premixed flame sound

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2005
Abstract The occurrence of oscillating combustion and combustion instability has led to resurgence of interest in the causes, mechanisms, suppression, and control of combustion noise. Noise generated by enclosed flames is of greater practical interest but is more complicated than that by open flames, which itself is not clearly understood.

A study of partially premixed unconfined propane flames

Combustion and Flame, 1994
Unconfined turbulent partially premixed propane/air flames issuing from a straight tube into quiescent air at atmospheric pressure and temperature are investigated. Experiments on lifted flames are performed. Flame height and liftoff are reported together with emission indices for oxides of nitrogen (NO[sub 3]).

Effect of pressure on counterflow H2–air partially premixed flames

Combustion and Flame, 2005
A computational investigation of high-pressure hydrogen–air partially premixed flames (PPFs) is reported to characterize the effect of pressure on the flame structure, and the relevance of reaction limits for these flames. The flames are computed using the Mueller mechanism consisting of 19 elementary reactions and 9 species. Although the mechanism has

Correlating Flame Location and Ignition Delay in Partially Premixed Combustion

SAE Technical Paper Series, 2012
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Controlling ignition delay is the key to successfully enable partially premixed combustion in diesel engines. This paper presents experimental results of partially premixed combustion in an optically accessible engine, using primary reference fuels in combination with artificial ...

Effects of reaction mechanisms on structure and extinction of partially premixed flames

AIAA Journal, 2001
The structure and extinction behavior of partially premixed flames in a counterflow configuration are investigated by using five different chemistry models. These include the C 1 and C 2 mechanisms of Peters and Rogg (Peters, N., and Rogg, B., Reduced Kinetic Mechanisms for Applications in Combustion Systems, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1993, pp. 8-12),

Numerical and experimental study of no emission in laminar partially premixed flames

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2000
A partially premixed methane/air flame in a two-dimensional configuration was studied in this work. The configuration was close to those used in real domestic boilers. The flame structure and flow pattern were calculated by implementing a complex chemistry and detailed transport formulation in an industrial computational fluid dynamics code (ESTET).

A numerical investigation of the flame structure of an unsteady inverse partially premixed flame

Combustion and Flame, 1997
Abstract The flame structure of unsteady flickering partially premixed flames is numerically investigated, and detailed results are provided for a flame established at Fr = 0.5, Re = 500, and overall Φ = 1. A numerical study is conducted in an inverse configuration in which a fuel-rich (CH4-air) annular jet is sandwiched between an axisymmetric air ...

LaminarTriple Flames in Partially Premixed Opposed Flows

Combustion Science and Technology, 1998
Presented is an asymptotic analysis of premixed laminar flames in opposed streams under circumstances of fast chemistry and/or low rates of strain and of high Reynolds numbers. In this case there exist three distinct reaction layers, two premixed and one nonpremixed, the latter centered on the stagnation plane.

Partially Premixed Laminar Gas Flames from Triangular Burners

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 1996
An experimental study of the effects of using triangular burner exit ports in place of the standard circular ports in a laminar partially premixed gas burner is presented. A natural gas burner employed in a small residential-scale heating system rated at 5.86 kW was modie ed. Air entrainment into the nonburning jets, emission indices of nitrogen oxides
