Extrapolation from participatory sensing data
Proceedings of the 11th ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems, 2013In this demo, a learning system, called Metis, is presented that extrapolates missing pieces in participatory sensing data. The work addresses the challenge of incomplete coverage in participatory sensing applications, where lack of complete control over participant mobility and sensing patterns may create coverage gaps in space and in time.

Big data management in participatory sensing: Issues, trends and future directions
Future generations computer systems, 2017Participatory sensing has become an emerging technology of this era owing to its low cost in big sensor data collection. Prior to participatory sensing, large-scale deployment complexities were found in wireless sensor networks when collecting data from ...

Participatory sensing in public spaces
Proceedings of the 8th ACM Conference on Designing Interactive Systems, 2010Recent convergence between low-cost technology, artform and political discourse presents a new design space for enabling public participation and expression. We explore non-experts' use of place-based, modular sensors to activate, author and provoke urban landscapes.

Distributed Social Welfare Maximization in Urban Vehicular Participatory Sensing Systems
IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, 2018We consider the crucial problem of maximizing the social welfare of a vehicular participatory sensing system, where the system's social welfare is measured by the amount of sensing data delivered to a central platform through a vehicular ad hoc network ...

Participatory sensing for community building
CHI '11 Extended Abstracts on Human Factors in Computing Systems, 2011In this research, we explore the viability of using participatory sensing as a means to enhance a sense of community. To accomplish this, we are developing and deploying a suite of participatory sensing applications, where users explicitly report on the state of their environment, such as the location of the bus.

Sensing WithSense - An Intelligent Interface for Participatory Sensing
2010 Fifth International Conference on Software Engineering Advances, 2010With the introduction of the concept of cloud computing an immense trend is found towards the concept of computing as service, with this approach the huge efforts are being made to utilize mobile phones and other hand held devices at their fullest. With this the first thing that comes out in mind is, to use the mobiles and hand held devices as real ...

Social Welfare Maximization in Participatory Smartphone Sensing
Computer Networks, 2013Participatory smartphone sensing has lately become more and more popular as a new paradigm for performing large-scale sensing, in which each smartphone contributes its sensed data for a collaborative sensing application. Most existing studies assume that smartphone users are strictly strategic and completely rational, which can achieve only sub-optimal
