Particle-in-Cell and Hybrid Simulation

2013
The aim of this lecture is to provide a very short ‘primer’ course on the PIC method. This will cover the basics of PIC algorithms and numerical methods, potential pit-falls of the method, and the important extensions to the method (including so-called ‘hybrid’ codes).

Embedding particle-in-cell simulations in global magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the magnetosphere

Journal of Plasma Physics, 2019
We have combined global magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of the solar wind and magnetosphere interaction with an implicit particle-in-cell simulation (PIC) and used this approach to model magnetic reconnection at both the dayside magnetopause and in the magnetotail plasma sheet.

Large Scale Particle-in-cell Plasma Simulation

2008
A three dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation code is developed for investigating plasma kinetic phenomena in fusion plasma. The code is parallelized using High Performance Fortran (HPF) and good performance is attained for computations carried out on the Plasma Simulator NEC SX-7/160M5 at the National Institute for Fusion Science (NIFS).

Particle-in-Cell Simulation of Cosmic Plasma

1992
While it is thinkable that our ability to make in situ measurements can perhaps be extended to the nearest stars, most of the universe beyond a few parsecs will be beyond the reach of our spacecraft forever.
