A Comparison of Particle-in-cell and Hybrid Simulations of the Heliospheric Termination Shock
We compare hybrid (kinetic proton, fluid electron) and particle-in-cell (kinetic proton, kinetic electron) simulations of the solar wind termination shock with parameters similar to those observed by Voyager 2 during its crossing.

This study elucidates the mechanism of compressible flow exfoliation for producing 2D hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN). Fluid dynamics analysis reveals that acceleration‐driven aerodynamic shear forces, rather than shock waves alone, drive effective layer separation.

Particle in cell simulation of combustion synthesis of TiC nanoparticles [PDF]
A coupled continuum-discrete numerical model is presented to study the synthesis of TiC nanosized aggregates during a self-propagating combustion synthesis (SHS) process. The overall model describes the transient of the basic mechanisms governing the SHS process in a two-dimensional micrometer size geometry system.

In this experimental study, the mechanical properties of additively manufactured Ti‐6Al‐4V lattice structures of different geometries are characterized using compression, four point bending and fatigue testing. While TPMS designs show superior fatigue resistance, SplitP and Honeycomb lattice structures combine high stiffness and strength. The resulting

This work presents a simulation‐based framework based on representative volume elements (RVEs) that explicitly incorporates process‐induced second‐order residual stresses into the fatigue strength assessment of ductile cast iron (DCI). For the first time, this approach enables a direct evaluation of the influence of second‐order residual stress fields ...

While plasma often behaves diamagnetically, we demonstrate that the laser irradiation of a thin opaque target with an embedded target-transverse seed magnetic field B _seed can trigger the generation of an order-of-magnitude stronger magnetic field with ...

This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Single Domain Multiple Decompositions for Particle-in-Cell simulations
Abstract As a multi-purpose Particle-In-Cell (PIC) code, SMILEI gathers many different features in a single software. Combining some of them is challenging. In particular, spectral solvers and patch based load balancing have a priori non compatible requirements.

PBTTT‐OR‐R, a C14‐alkoxy/alkyl‐PBTTT polymer derivative, is of substantial interest for optoelectronics due to its specific fullerene intercalation behavior and enhanced charge‐transfer absorption. Comparing this polymer with (S) and without (O) homocoupling defects reveals that PBTTT‐OR‐R(O) forms stable co‐crystals with PC61BM, while PBTTT‐OR‐R(S ...

Impedance of electric field sensors in magnetized plasmas: particle-in-cell simulations
To obtain both the intensities and phases of electric fields, it is necessary to calibrate the data observed by the sensor by consulting the sensor characteristics.
