Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Dust generation in powders: Effect of particle size distribution

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
This study explores the relationship between the bulk and grain-scale properties of powders and dust generation. A vortex shaker dustiness tester was used to evaluate 8 calcium carbonate test powders with median particle sizes ranging from 2μm to 136μm ...

Evaluating the involvement of autolysosomes in the nuclear translocation of fluorescent proteins

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Endogenously expressed fluorescent proteins can be degraded by autophagy and transported to cell nuclei via the nuclear pore complex. But in some cell lines, for example, HeLa cells which are positive for immunoreactivity of a receptor ligand, such as UCN I, in cell nuclei, fusion of autolysosome with the nuclear envelope is involved in the nuclear ...

Plasma EV Proteomics Identifies ECM Remodeling and Inflammatory Proteins LUM and C7 as Candidate Biomarkers in FSHD

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) is one of the most debilitating and common muscular dystrophies. Despite its severity, no approved therapy exists for FSHD patients. However, several therapeutic candidates are currently under development, and some have recently entered clinical trials, marking the need for reliable ...

Analysis and Application of Particle Backtracking Algorithm in Wind–Sand Two-Phase Flow Using SPH Method

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Due to the high sensitivity of grid-based micro-scale wind–sand flow models to deformation and distortion, this study employs the Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method for numerical simulations.

Effects of Add‐On Icosapent Ethyl With Standard Treatment on Functional Outcomes and Inflammatory Biomarkers in Acute Ischemic Stroke: A Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ischemic stroke, a major cause of mortality and long‐term disability, results from the abrupt cessation of cerebral blood flow due to vascular occlusion or rupture. Icosapent Ethyl (EPA‐EE), approved for hypertriglyceridemia, has anti‐inflammatory and antithrombotic properties that may lessen ischemic damage.

Development of a mass model in estimating weight-wise particle size distribution using digital image processing

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2017
Particle size distribution of coarse aggregates through mechanical sieving gives results in terms of cumulative mass percent. But digital image processing generated size distribution of particles, while being fast and accurate, is often expressed in ...

Influence of soil particle size, organic carbon and pH on mercury distribution and dissolution in contaminated soil

open access: yes, 2013
Mercury (Hg) cannot be destroyed therefore only two principal processes are available for the treatment of Hg-contaminated soil: 1) separation of Hg from soil (through wet-sieving and/or chemical extraction), or 2) stabilization of Hg within the soil ...
