A treatment of impact breakage of particles
Powder Technology, 2002Abstract Particles of a given size and material have a distribution of strengths so that some fractions break at low specific strain energies, more at higher strain energies, and all break at sufficient strain energy. Those fragments from breakage at a low specific strain energy produced during a higher specific energy impact will have relaxed their ...

Restraint of Particle Breakage by Biotreatment Method
Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2020AbstractThe particle breakage and compressibility behavior of sands treated with microbially induced carbonate precipitation (MICP) has been investigated using oedometric compression tests.

Parametric dependence of particle breakage mechanisms
Powder Technology, 2001Abstract It has been observed that the pattern of particle impact breakage in two-dimensional systems is a result of two mechanisms. “Mechanism I” accounts for the breakage induced by the stresses that appear in unbroken particles. “Mechanism II” breakage is due to the buckling of the Mechanism I fragments.

Effect of Breakage on the Bipolarly Charged Particles
Advanced Materials Research, 2013The population balance equation (PBE) was solved numerically by using the sectional method to investigate the effect of breakage on the agglomeration between bipolarly charged particles. Calculations showed that breakage results in the increase of small particles and the decrease of large particles bipolarly charged, compared to the case with only ...

Particle Breakage and the Drained Shear Behavior of Sands
International Journal of Geomechanics, 2017This paper presents particle breakage and the drained shear behavior of sands. A series of drained shear tests were conducted on Silica Sand No. 5 and Coral Sand No. 3 under a 3-MPa confining pressure to produce the precrushed sands that were reused in triaxial tests to detect the influence of particle breakage.

Modelling of particle breakage during drying
Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2008An advanced theoretical drying model of single wet particle is proposed. The temperature profile in both crust and wet core regions is described by partial differential equations with appropriate boundary conditions. A Stefan-type vapour diffusion through the crust pores and its convection to the drying ambient has been assumed.

Statistics of multiple particle breakage accounting for particle shape
AIChE Journal, 2004AbstractA method is presented for developing multiple particle breakage distribution functions that include the shape factor, as well as the particle size. The technique is to first develop a joint probability distribution that accounts for the size and shape factor of each child particle.

Simulation of Spherical Particle Breakage
2014Abstract Many papers on particle breakage provide qualitative descriptions of changes in particle shape, but do not provide quantitative analysis of changes in the particle shape. The papers that provide quantitative analysis often focus on the case where corners are chipped off of a cubic crystal.

Breakage probability of irregularly shaped particles
Chemical Engineering Science, 2010The investigation of breakage probability by compression of single particles was carried out. The spherical glass particles and irregularly shaped particles of NaCl, sugar, basalt and marble were subjected to a breakage test. The breakage test includes the compression up to breakage of 100 particles to obtain the distribution of the breakage ...

The influence of particle bed configurations and confinements on particle breakage
International Journal of Mineral Processing, 1996Abstract Particle arrangements and confinements can be classified in the four groups (1) single particle situation, (2) one-particle layer, (3) particle bed confined closely or widely, and (4) ideal particle bed. Any confinement influences the stress distribution inside the bed due to the wall friction, and a complex stress field arises.
