Can one ever prove that neutrinos are Dirac particles?

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2018
According to the “Black Box” theorem the experimental confirmation of neutrinoless double beta decay (0ν2β) would imply that at least one of the neutrinos is a Majorana particle.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Statistics of the contact network in frictional and frictionless granular packings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Simulated granular packings with different particle friction coefficient mu are examined. The distribution of the particle-particle and particle-wall normal and tangential contact forces P(f) are computed and compared with existing experimental data ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Space distributions and decay probability for excited state of 7Li*(7,45 MeV) in reaction 7Li(α, α6Li)n [PDF]

open access: yesЯдерна фізика та енергетика, 2007
Differential cross-sections of excitation and decay of 7 Li*(7,45 MeV) resonance into 6 Li + n channel in three particle reaction 7 Li(α, α6 Li)n at α-particle energy of 27,2 MeV have been determined in kinematically complete and incomplete ...

Measurements of the Neutron Lifetime

open access: yesAtoms, 2018
Free neutron decay is a fundamental process in particle and nuclear physics. It is the prototype for nuclear beta decay and other semileptonic weak particle decays. Neutron decay played a key role in the formation of light elements in the early universe.

Entanglement Autodistillation from Particle Decays

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters
Particle decays do not constitute a spin “measurement” in the quantum-mechanical sense but still modify the spin state, in particular, for an entangled system. We show that for a spin-entangled pair of particles the entanglement of the system can increase after the decay of one particle. This unique phenomenon has no equivalent for stable particles and
