Interaction between Molten Al‐Killed Mn–B Steel and Carbon‐Bonded MgO Refractories Based on Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐temperature interactions between low‐sulfur Al‐killed Mn–B steel and MgO–C refractories (0 and 50 wt% recyclates) are studied via finger immersion tests (1600 °C). Surface‐active elements influence infiltration. MgO/CaS layer forms, along with spinel and calcium silicate.

A Physically Based Model for Non‐Point Source Pollutant Wash‐Off Process Over Impervious Surfaces

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Physically based urban wash‐off modeling presents a promising approach for investigating the dynamics of road‐deposited sediments (RDS) and the associated pollutants during rainfall events.

Generic principles of active transport

open access: yes, 2006
Nonequilibrium collective motion is ubiquitous in nature and often results in a rich collection of intringuing phenomena, such as the formation of shocks or patterns, subdiffusive kinetics, traffic jams, and nonequilibrium phase transitions.

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

The role of divertor pumping combined with full drifts in particle exhaust and divertor plasma

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The effect of drifts combined with pumping on particle exhaust is assessed using the SOLPS-ITER code package, considering full drifts. Both drift and pumping speed S can affect particle exhaust.

Laboratory study on the effects of hydraulic and granulometric parameters on the response of granular soil to internal erosion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Erosion is a major environmental problem to agricultural land as well as to civil engineering infrastructures. Rainwater infiltration into granular soils can lead to the migration of fine particles by suffusion.

Particle interactions and lattice dynamics: Scenarios for efficient bidirectional stochastic transport?

open access: yes, 2011
Intracellular transport processes driven by molecular motors can be described by stochastic lattice models of self-driven particles. Here we focus on bidirectional transport models excluding the exchange of particles on the same track.

Engineering Deformation and Failure in Diamond Triply Periodic Minimal Surface Lattices via 3D Wall‐Thickness Grading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The work demonstrates that strategic wall‐thickness grading in diamond triply periodic minimal surface lattices enables precise tuning of deformation and failure behavior under compression. Different gradation patterns guide how and where the structure collapses, improving energy absorption or promoting controlled brittle failure.

Detachment Energy Evaluation in Nano-Particle Cleaning Using Lateral Force Microscopy

open access: yesApplied Sciences
It has been difficult to detach abrasive particles smaller than 50 nm from polished surfaces in post-CMP cleaning. During the cleaning process, the residual nano-particles exert shear force in the inevitable shear flow.
