Chiral Phonon–Driven Ultrafast Spin Currents in a Non‐Magnetic Ferroelectric

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Broadband terahertz emission spectroscopy shows signatures of ultrafast spin‐current generation in non‐magnetic ferroelectric β$\beta$’‐In2Se3${\rm In}_2{\rm Se}_3$. Reversal of the emitted field upon sample inversion and substitution of Pt with W indicates spin‐Hall‐mediated charge conversion, while polarization‐resolved measurements reveal ...

A Simple Descriptor for Solid‐State Ionic Conductors Across Chemistries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Researchers develop a simple and transferable descriptor, distance contraction, for solid‐state ion migration across Li‐, Na‐, K‐, and Mg‐ion conductors and diverse anion chemistries. By capturing the maximum local contraction experienced by the migrating ion, the descriptor enables rapid materials screening and unifies diverse ion‐transport mechanisms.

Phase Diagrams Enable Solid‐State Battery Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Batteries are non‐equilibrium devices with inherent thermodynamic driving forces to react at interfaces, regardless of kinetics or operating conditions. Chemical potential mismatches across interfaces are dissipated via interfacial reactions. In this work, it is illustrated how phase diagrams and chemical potential maps predict degradation pathways but

Defect‐Driven Charge Separation in Ba‐Doped SrTiO3: Correlating Photoelectrochemical Performance With Dye‐Selective Photocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Ba‐doped SrTiO3 perovskites establish a direct correlation between photoelectrochemical activity and photocatalytic performance. Optimized Ba0.5Sr0.5TiO3 exhibits enhanced charge separation, photocurrent generation, and visible‐light‐driven dye degradation through defect‐induced oxygen vacancies and lattice distortion.

Where Precursor Loading Stops Making a Difference: Resolving an Operational Infiltration Limit for Nanoparticle Synthesis Using Dual Quantification of Reverse Micelle Nanoreactors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A dual characterization strategy combining nanomechanical and mass measurements resolves a common operational loading threshold in reverse micelle nanoreactors. This transferable framework provides a rational strategy for optimizing precursor loading and nanoparticle synthesis, across template‐mediated fabrication systems.

A study of compaction of composite particles by multi-particle finite element method

Composites Science and Technology, 2009
We study the compaction of composite mixture of soft and hard micro-/nano-size particles using multi-particle finite element method. In this method, each particle is fully discretized into finite element mesh. Local non-uniform contact deformation and non-uniformity stress chains transmitted through the composite are well illustrated.

Moving particle finite element method with global smoothness

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2004
AbstractWe describe a new version of the moving particle finite element method (MPFEM) that provides solutions within a C0 finite element framework. The finite elements determine the weighting for the moving partition of unity. A concept of ‘General Shape Function’ is proposed which extends regular finite element shape functions to a larger domain ...

A Particle Finite Element Method for Additive Manufacturing Simulations

Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, 2023
AbstractIn this work, the particle finite element method (PFEM) is extended to simulate additive manufacturing processes in a variety of different complicated geometries. A three-dimensional α-shape approach is used to carry out the material addition procedure.

Moving particle finite element method

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2001
AbstractThis paper presents the fundamental concepts behind the moving particle finite element method, which combines salient features of finite element and meshfree methods. The proposed method alleviates certain problems that plague meshfree techniques, such as essential boundary condition enforcement and the use of a separate background mesh to ...
