Coupling of smooth particle hydrodynamics with the finite element method

Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1994
Abstract A gridless technique called smooth particle hydrodynamics (SPH) has been coupled with the transient dynamics finite element code pronto . In this paper, a new weighted residual derivation for the SPH method will be presented, and the methods used to embed SPH within pronto will be outlined.

Dynamic simulation of drops by the particle finite element method

2021
Liquid drop dynamics on solid surfaces play an important role both in nature and engineered applications. The prediction of drop spreading and/or sliding motions has far-reaching implications in many fields of application, including microfluidics, phase change applications, or coating technology.

Finite element-particle method calculation of EHD plumes

Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2003
We use the superparticle technique mixed with finite element methods to study the transient and stationary behavior of EHD flows. Calculations show that the technique is suitable to study EHD flows. We have been able to reproduce fairly well the particle distribution and flow pattern for both transient and steady EHD plumes.

Particle Finite Element Methods in Solid Mechanics Problems

2007
The paper examines the possibilities of extending the Particle finite element methods (PFEM), which have been successfully applied in fluid mechanics, to solid mechanics problems. After a review of the fundamentals of the method, their specific features in solid mechanics are presented.

A Finite Element Particle Method for Extreme Deformation Problems

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering
ABSTRACT A novel finite element particle method (FEPM) is proposed in this paper for modeling extreme deformation problems. In a material domain, regions undergoing small deformation are discretized using elements of the finite element method (FEM), while zones subject to extreme deformation are represented with particles of the ...
