Finite Element Method for Charged-Particle Calculations

Nuclear Science and Engineering, 1986
A new method for solving the Boltzmann-Fokker-Planck equation is presented. Following the finite element technique, the solution is projected onto a space defined by linear discontinuous basis functions. Three approaches for the angular flux are derived and compared: the first two for a coupled energy-position discretization and the third one for the ...

Finite element-particle method calculation of EHD plumes

Annual Report Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena, 2003
We use the superparticle technique mixed with finite element methods to study the transient and stationary behavior of EHD flows. Calculations show that the technique is suitable to study EHD flows. We have been able to reproduce fairly well the particle distribution and flow pattern for both transient and steady EHD plumes.

Moving particle finite element method with global smoothness

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2004
AbstractWe describe a new version of the moving particle finite element method (MPFEM) that provides solutions within a C0 finite element framework. The finite elements determine the weighting for the moving partition of unity. A concept of ‘General Shape Function’ is proposed which extends regular finite element shape functions to a larger domain ...

Bridging Scale Particle and Finite Element Methods

2006
We summarize the strengths and limitations of currently available multiple-scale techniques, where the emphasis is made on the latest prospective approaches, such as the bridging scale method, multiscale boundary conditions, and multiscale fluidics. Example problems, in which multiple-scale simulation methods yield equivalent results to full atomistic ...

A Particle Finite Element Method for Additive Manufacturing Simulations

Journal of Computing and Information Science in Engineering, 2023
AbstractIn this work, the particle finite element method (PFEM) is extended to simulate additive manufacturing processes in a variety of different complicated geometries. A three-dimensional α-shape approach is used to carry out the material addition procedure.

Simulation of Cutting processes by the Particle Finite Element Method

GAMM-Mitteilungen, 2017
AbstractThe cutting process is characterised by large deformations and large configurational changes. Especially the formation of chips and burrs pushes established modeling techniques to their limits. To overcome these difficulties, the particle finite element method (PFEM) combines the benefits of discrete modeling techniques and methods based on ...

Particle in Cell Finite Element Validation and Verification Methods

2020 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and North American Radio Science Meeting, 2020
Particle in cell codes are used extensively to understand plasma physics and to design devices that exploit these physics. More recent needs (say novel table top accelerators) have given impetus to development of the next generation plasma physics codes that have better fidelity. But despite this need, it is difficult to validate any code.

Numerische Simulation von Drucksondierungen mithilfe der Particle Finite Element Method

Bautechnik, 2023

Particle Finite Element Methods in Solid Mechanics Problems

2007
The paper examines the possibilities of extending the Particle finite element methods (PFEM), which have been successfully applied in fluid mechanics, to solid mechanics problems. After a review of the fundamentals of the method, their specific features in solid mechanics are presented.
