This paper is concerned with experimental results of sand avalanches flowing down inclined plexiglass chutes with lateral confinement. We introduce the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique for granular avalanches and discuss the differences in its implementation compared to standard PIV.

Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) Measurements in Plunging Jets

This paper presents the research performed to define the current abilities and limits of PIV in measuring air concentration and velocity in spillway plunging jets. The research concluded that PIV measurement methods can successfully measure velocity and air concentration in a stilling basin environment.

In this paper, we propose a new measurement scheme, called phase-stamp imaging using correlation image sensor(CIS). The correlation image sensor, developed by us, is the device which outputs the temporal correlation between incident light intensity and three reference signals which is common among whole pixel.
