Uncertainties exist in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of complex metallurgical processes, even when partly validated by laboratory experiments. rCFD enables computationally efficient prediction of long‐term RH degassing and can be adapted to vary flow conditions.

Part2Track: A MATLAB package for double frame and time resolved Particle Tracking Velocimetry
Within this paper we present Part2Track, a MATLAB software package for the evaluation of 2D Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) measurements. Part2Track is not only capable of handling time resolved image series but also double frame image sets, which ...

Feasibility of Optical Flow Field Measurements of the Coolant in a Grinding Machine
For industrial grinding processes, the workpiece cooling by metalworking fluids, which strongly influences the workpiece surface layer quality, is not yet fully understood.

Abstract Laboratory experiments measured velocity and bedload transport in vegetated channels under current‐dominated, combined wave‐current conditions. Waves and vegetation, respectively, introduced temporal and spatial heterogeneity in the velocity, which significantly impacted sediment transport rate.

Global Hydroclimatic Controls on Multithread River Dynamics
Abstract Most large rivers in densely populated areas split flow into multiple channels, forming interconnected pathways called threads. Multithread rivers are sensitive to hydroclimatic changes, yet understanding their dynamics is challenging due to the lack of robust metrics to characterize their evolution.

Validation of the granular temperature prediction of the kinetic theory of granular flow by particle image velocimetry and discrete particle model [PDF]
In order to give a detailed description of the hydrodynamics in large industrial scale fluidized beds, continuum models are required. Continuum models often use the kinetic theory of granular flow (KTGF) to provide closure equations for the internal ...

Abstract Understanding large wood (LW) dynamics on floodplains is important for closing wood budgets and predicting hazards associated with LW. We conducted 38 experiments in a fixed‐bed flume to examine how forest stand density (FSD), wood transport regime, and overbank flood magnitude affect floodplain LW retention.

A PIV-based method to measure spatial gradients in bedload transport over a dune
Traditional sediment transport equations calculate sediment flux from bed shear stress and the equations predict that transport increases nonlinearly with an increase in flow velocity.
