Particle polarization lidar for precipitation particle classification

Applied Optics, 2022
This study proposes a particle polarization lidar that distinguishes raindrops and snowflakes based on individual precipitation particles’ polarization information. As precipitation particles are several millimeters in size, the lidar signal from individual precipitation particles can be detected with a single laser pulse.

Particle precipitation efficiency in an electrostatic precipitator

Journal of Electrostatics, 2005
Abstract In this paper, results of the measurements of the size distribution of seed particles after their precipitation in a wire-plate-type ESP with seven wire electrodes are presented. The cigarette smoke was used as a source of seed particles. The particles of sizes from 0.5 to 8 μm were counted in the 0.5 μm-wide ranges at the ESP outlet using a

Extraterrestrial particles and precipitation

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1975
Abstract Concentration peaks of magnetic spheroids appeared simultaneously at different latitudes in the northern and southern hemispheres, proving that the majority of spheroids is of extraterrestrial origin. Extraterrestrial particles present in a concentration peak are not from a single source but from many meteor streams.

Primary particle formation in protein precipitation

Biotechnology and Bioengineering, 1985
AbstractRecovery of proteins frequently involves a precipitation step in which ease of recovery of the solid protein depends on the size and density of the solid particles. The solid particles are actually aggregates of much smaller primary particles. In this work, possible influences on the aggregates of primary particle properties are postulated. The

Precipitation of Spherical Co3O4 Particles

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1995
Abstract A reaction making it possible to obtain Co3O4 in the form of spheres with a narrow size distribution and diameters of ca. 0.2-0.3 μm, depending on the temperature used, is described. The starting reagent is a trivalent cobalt complex salt (Na3Co(NO2)6) which is decomposed in the presence of ammonium buffers.

Thermal precipitation and particle conductivity

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1966
Abstract Aerosol particles in a thermal gradient experience a force tending to drive them in the direction of the lower temperature. The force has been described both as strongly dependent and as almost independent of particle thermal conductivity.

Mixing Effects on Particle Precipitation

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2005
A common but complex multiphase chemical reactor process is the mixing of two chemicals to precipitate particles. We build on previous work [Madras, G.; McCoy, B. J. AIChE J. 2004, 50, 835] to study how turbulent mixing influences precipitation reactions.

Particle diffusion in electrostatic precipitators

Chemical Engineering Science, 1976
Abstract A summary is presented of the main work in the transient diffusion of (mainly) passive scalars in tubes and channels with the viewpoint of seeking to apply methods of analysis in these areas to the consideration of the diffusion of particles in turbulent flow in a parallel plate electrostatic precipitator.

Paleo Mars energetic particle precipitation

Planetary and Space Science, 2015
Abstract A young Mars may well have possessed a global dipolar magnetic field that provided protection for the planet׳s atmosphere from the space weather environment. Against this background, we study in the present paper the effect of various dipole magnetic fields on particle precipitation (range 10 keV–4.5 MeV) on the upper Martian atmosphere as ...
