Evaluating Sand Particle Surface Smoothness Using a New Computer-Based Approach to Improve the Characterization of Macroscale Parameters

open access: yesGeotechnics, 2023
The analysis of sands, and the foundation systems with which they interact, are largely dependent on macroscale behavioral parameters that represent the aggregated response of several microscale characteristics. This research paper examines the influence

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

The influence of particle shape and mineralogy on the particle strength, breakage and compressibility

open access: yesInternational Journal of Geo-Engineering, 2020
It is widely accepted that both particle shape and mineralogy could have a great effect on the particle strength. However, due to the complexity of nature grains, it is difficult to distinguish the influence of particle shape from mineralogy.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Particle Discharge Characteristics from the Nozzle of a Thin Tube Immersed in Liquid Subjected to Ultrasonic Wave Force [Translated]†

open access: yesKONA Powder and Particle Journal, 2014
A wet micro-feeder that utilizes ultrasonic wave force was designed and constructed to feed small particles into a container of wet particulate materials. The particle discharge characteristics from a nozzle with the

Shaping Particles for Ultramicrotomy [PDF]

open access: yesMRS Proceedings, 1991
AbstractA technique for preshaping large particles of reacted glass for ultramicrotomy is described. This technique preserves delicate surface layers and results in more sections per block extending deeper into the sample than other techniques.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

A Study on Shape-Dependent Settling of Single Particles with Equal Volume Using Surface Resolved Simulations

open access: yesComputation, 2021
A detailed knowledge of the influence of a particle’s shape on its settling behavior is useful for the prediction and design of separation processes. Models in the available literature usually fit a given function to experimental data.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Combining experiment and prediction to explore surface chemistry and dissolution

open access: yesIUCrJ
A crystal structure is often an integral component in the development of a new pharmaceutical product, and these structures are frequently used to understand, assess and often predict both the manufacturing and in vivo behaviour of these compounds ...
