Stimuli‐Responsive, Shape‐Transforming Nanostructured Particles

Advanced Materials, 2017
Development of particles that change shape in response to external stimuli has been a long‐thought goal for producing bioinspired, smart materials. Herein, the temperature‐driven transformation of the shape and morphology of polymer particles composed of polystyrene‐b‐poly(4‐vinylpyridine) (PS‐b‐P4VP) block copolymers (BCPs) and temperature‐responsive ...

Particle Shape Characterization

1997
In powder technology the size characterization problems range from determining the shape of rock fragments measuring several centimeters to the problems of characterizing the shape and structure of items such as diesel soot and industrially important pigments.

Breakage of anisometric rod-shaped particles

Particulate Science and Technology, 2017
ABSTRACTIn this experimental study, behavior of dry granular layers of monodisperse cylindrical particles (8 × 1 mm) under uniaxial compression in piston die arrangement was investigated. The layer compressibility and particle size distribution (PSD) were measured.

Particle Shape and Laser Diffraction: A Discussion of the Particle Shape Problem

Journal of Dispersion Science and Technology, 2005
Abstract Particle size is considered as one of the most important characteristics of particulate materials. This is because every behavior of particles depends on particle size significantly—and vice versa: particle size can be determined from any kinds of physical responses depending on the size.

Shape Factor in Particle-Size Measurement

Nature, 1949
WE have had occasion to separate alumina powder into uniformly sized groups for testing fuel niters, and to measure the particle-size microscopically. It seemed likely that a measurement of a linear dimension together with a factor describing the shape of the particles would be the most useful parameters to correlate with filter performance, since ...

Interactions between particles of arbitrary shape I. Uncharged particles

Proceedings of the Royal Society of London. A. Mathematical and Physical Sciences, 1979
A method of solution of the Helmholtz equation is developed, for situations in which the boundary can be of an arbitrary shape. The method is applied to calculate dispersion forces between smooth particles in electrolyte solution, with specific expression given for simple geometries, such as spheres, cylinders and elliptical paraboloids.
