Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV)

1996
Particle Tracking Velocimetry (PTV) is one of the oldest measuring techniques in fluid mechanics. It is often called low particle number density Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) (Adrian, 1991). The two methods have indeed in common that they determine the velocity from the displacement of particles in a moving fluid during a prescribed time interval ...

Streamflow Observations From Cameras: Large‐Scale Particle Image Velocimetry or Particle Tracking Velocimetry?

Water Resources Research, 2017
AbstractImage‐based methodologies, such as large scale particle image velocimetry (LSPIV) and particle tracking velocimetry (PTV), have increased our ability to noninvasively conduct streamflow measurements by affording spatially distributed observations at high temporal resolution.

Two-dimensional particle displacement tracking in particle imaging velocimetry

Applied Optics, 1991
A new particle imaging velocimetry data acquisition and analysis system, which is an order of magnitude faster than any previously proposed system, has been constructed and tested. The new particle displacement tracking (PDT) system is an all electronic technique employing a video camera and a large memory buffer frame-grabber board.

SOM based Particle Matching for Volumetric Particle Tracking Velocimetry

Computer Graphics and Imaging / 798: Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition and Applications, 2013
Novel 3D image analysis and particle matching techniques for the use in the volumetric particle tracking velocimetry have been developed and tested by using synthetic images and experimental images of unsteady 3D flows. A tomography based particle reconstruction scheme along with the subsequent process of individual particle detection and validation ...

New tracking algorithm for particle image velocimetry

Experiments in Fluids, 1995
The cross correlation tracking technique is widely used to analyze image data, in Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The technique assumes that the fluid motion, within small regions of the flow field, is parallel over short time intervals. However, actual flow fields may have some distorted motion, such as rotation, shear and expansion.

Particle Tracking Velocimetry Using Cellular Neural Network

The 2006 IEEE International Joint Conference on Neural Network Proceedings, 2006
Recent advances in digital image processing techniques, electronic and optical hardware have facilitated the investigation of fluid mechanics among the others. Flow visualization is the indispensable tool in the investigation of complex flow structures.

Microscale, scanning defocusing volumetric particle-tracking velocimetry

Experiments in Fluids, 2019
We present a novel defocusing particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) method for micro-fluidic systems. This method delivers 3-dimensional 3-component (3D3C) flow measurements, and does not require an additional calibration procedure to obtain the relationship between particle out-of-plane position and its diameter/intensity.

Particle Image Velocimetry by Feature Tracking

2001
Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a popular approach to flow visualisation in hydro- and aerodynamic studies and applications. The fluid is seeded with particles that follow the flow and make it visible. Traditionally, correlation techniques have been used to estimate the displacements of the particles in a digital PIV sequence.
