An In Situ Curing, Shear‐Responsive Biomaterial Designed for Durable Embolization of Microvasculature

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
NeoCast is a next‐generation, solvent‐free, non‐adhesive liquid embolic designed for indications where deep occlusion is desired (e.g., tumors and chronic subdural hematoma). This novel agent offers ideal embolic properties: injectability, controllability, excellent visibility, and biocompatibility.

Ecological effects of particulate matter

open access: yesEnvironment International, 2003
Atmospheric particulate matter (PM) is a heterogeneous material. Though regulated as un-speciated mass, it exerts most effects on vegetation and ecosystems by virtue of the mass loading of its chemical constituents. As this varies temporally and spatially, prediction of regional impacts remains difficult.

Rod‐shaped Polymerized Salicylic Acid Particles Modulate Neutrophil Transendothelial Migration in Acute Inflammation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Rod‐shaped particles outperform spherical particles of the same volume in preventing neutrophil infiltration to inflamed areas, both in vitro and in vivo. This therapeutic effectiveness is attributed to better cell targeting and decreased cell motility, resulting from the geometry‐driven phagocytosis and inhibited actin polymerization.

Particulate matter in bubble oxygenators

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1974
The degree of contamination was evaluated in seven blood oxygenators in common use. The Bentley Q 100 unit was found to have the highest degree of particulate contamination and the Travenol 6LF the lowest. Evidence is presented in favor of adopting a micropore filtration and washing technique of the bubble oxygenator immediately before open-heart ...

Non-equivalence of antibiotic generic drugs and risk for intensive care patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: The underlying axiom in applying generic drugs is the equivalence of their active ingredient with the (usually more expensive) innovator product, an all-embracing statement with the insidious result that physicians assume that the generic ...

Particulate matter, science and EU policy [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Respiratory Journal, 2007
Several new research findings regarding the health effects of airborne particulate matter (PM) (usually studied by the size of the particles, e.g. PM10, particles with a 50% cut-off aerodynamic diameter of 10 μm, and PM2.5, particles with a 50% cut-off aerodynamic diameter of 2.5 μm) have been presented at two important scientific meetings held in ...
