Theranostic nanoplatform for high‐performance dual‐modal magnetic resonance imaging‐guided therapy of orthotopic hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
This article introduces a biomimetic Mn‐doped polydopamine nanoplatform (HAMM NPs) coated with cancer cell membranes. It enables targeted hepatocellular carcinoma theranostics via T1/T2 dual‐mode magnetic resonance imaging and tumor microenvironment‐triggered sonodynamic therapy/chemodynamic therapy, achieving potent antitumor efficacy in subcutaneous ...

Transfersomes with core and surface‐loaded NF‐κB p65 siRNA for enhanced transdermal transfection and effective treatment of psoriasis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
TCPL, a transfersome with Tween 80 and PEI, enables efficient transdermal siNF‐κB delivery, resolving PEI's toxicity issue. It promotes lysosomal escape and effective transfection, silences NF‐κB, modulates immunity, and inhibits angiogenesis, alleviating psoriasis. With good biocompatibility, TCPL holds strong clinical translation potential. Schematic

Dissolved carbon flow to particulate organic carbon enhances soil carbon sequestration

open access: yesSOIL
Abstract. Particulate organic carbon (POC) and mineral-associated organic carbon (MAOC), which are two primary components of the soil carbon (C) reservoir, have different physical and chemical properties as well as biochemical turnover rates. Microbial necromass entombment is a primary mechanism for MAOC formation from fast-decaying plant substrates ...

The importance of dissolved organic nutrients in the biogeochemistry of oligotrophic gyres

open access: yes, 2005
The aim of this thesis is to contribute to the observational database in order to address fundamental questions as to how dissolved organic nutrients influence N and P budgets, how they affect nutrient cycling and the sustainment of biological production

A Systemic Model for Understanding Business Interactions With Biodiversity and Ecosystems

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation represent critical threats to human well‐being and economic resilience, challenging businesses to understand and manage their interdependence with natural systems. This study develops a systemic framework—the BioModel—that elucidates the reciprocal relationship between businesses, biodiversity, and ...

Recent Strategies Toward Durable and Ion‐Tolerant Transition Metal‐Based Electrocatalysts in Seawater Electrolysis

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Recent strategies address these challenges through ion‐specific regulation, encompassing chloride‐tolerant and chloride‐regulating anodes together with cathode designs that suppress OH− accumulation and Mg2+/Ca2+ coupling. This ion‐management‐oriented framework provides general guidelines for achieving stable, selective, and scalable seawater ...

Diagnostic for the characterization of nanometric structures in high temperature reactive systems

open access: yes, 2008
It is now well know that the fraction of particulate mater in the ambient air defined as ultrafine particles can be considered the most critical for adverse human health effects because of their chemical composition and the ability of these particles to ...

Atmospheric tar balls: Particles from biomass and biofuel burning

open access: yes, 2004
"Tar balls'' are amorphous, carbonaceous spherules that occur in the tropospheric aerosol as a result of biomass and biofuel burning. They form a distinct group of particles with diameters typically between 30 and 500 nm and readily identifiable with ...

Ultra‐Thick Carbon Microhoneycomb Cathode for High‐Capacity Lithium‐Oxygen Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates ultra‐thick biochar‐derived carbon microhoneycomb cathodes for lithium‐oxygen batteries. The penetrated macrochannels serve as highly efficient pathways for Li+ and O2 and provide abundant accommodation space for the discharge product. The optimized cathode achieved a high areal capacity of 38.2 mAh cm–2, providing guidelines for
