Estimation of outgassing from an expended apogee motor and its effects on spacecraft surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes
An experimental and theoretical investigation was carried out to evaluate the degradation of the solar cells and other sensitive surfaces of a spacecraft, resulting from the molecular outgassing of an expended solid propellant apogee motor.

A Super‐Adhesive Air Filter With Capillarity‐Mediated Spontaneous Particle Absorption via Dynamic Bond Exchange

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We address the inherently weak particle adhesion of conventional air filters by coating a dynamically crosslinked adhesive layer that delivers capillarity‐driven strong adhesion and particle absorption mediated by dynamic bond exchange. The resulting enhancement in particle adhesion enables efficient ultrafast (up to 20 m s−1) and omnidirectional ...

Nanomaterial Integration at Liquid–Liquid Interfaces for Green Catalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Functional nanomaterials assembled at liquid–liquid interfaces create dual‐role platforms serving as emulsion stabilizers and catalytic sites, offering enhanced reaction kinetics with improved catalyst recovery and recyclability. This review examines design strategies, structure‐performance relationships, and industrial implementation prospects of ...

Reactive Laser Additive Manufacturing of Hierarchically Structured Aerogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Reactive laser additive manufacturing transforms printing into a chemically active synthesis step. Salt‐enabled transient reaction environments drive in situ formation of hierarchically structured graphitic aerogels with microtubular and nanoscale features in seconds.

Characterization and Antimicrobial Activity of Hafnium Nanostructures Fabricated by Physical Vapor Deposition Through a Colloidal Mask

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We generate hafnium nanostructures by first depositing polystyrene particles of varying diameter followed by physical vapour deposition of hafnium thin films. The resultant structure shows a kill‐on‐contact effect against both Gram‐negative Escherichia coli and Gram‐positive Staphylococcus aureus.

Impact of Oxygen Plasma Pre‐Treatment on Thermal Oxidation and Reliability of SiO2 on 4H‐SiC

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We investigate how oxygen plasma pre‐treatment affects the thermal oxidation of silicon carbide. While plasma modification increases growth rates by 84%, it reduces dielectric breakdown strength by 18%. Our findings reveal that although plasma improves the interface state density, it introduces structural damage, highlighting a critical trade‐off ...

Polymeric heat pipe wick [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
A wick for use in a capillary loop pump heat pipe is described. The wick material is an essentially uniformly porous, permeable, open-cell, polyethylene thermoplastic foam having an ultrahigh average molecular weight of from approximately 1 to 5 million,
