Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

An Integrated Oxygen‐Supplying Device and Predictive Multiphysics Model for Extended Ambient Transport of Insulin‐Producing Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cell therapies typically rely on cold‐chain logistics and cryopreservation, limiting access and compromising cell quality. Here, a dual‐chamber device separates an oxygen‐supplying chamber from a hyaluronic acid cargo chamber, sustaining oxygen delivery for over 70 h and enabling ambient‐temperature shipment.

Can't do it, won't do it! Developing a theoretically framed intervention to encourage better decontamination practice in Scottish dental practices [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Guidance on the cleaning of dental instruments in primary care has recently been published. The aims of this study are to determine if the publication of the guidance document was enough to influence decontamination best practice and to ...

Human Dental Pulp Stem Cell Secretome Restores Ischemic Stroke–Impaired Motor and Cognitive Functions by Reprogramming Redox and Inflammatory Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human dental pulp stem cell secretome emerges as a cell‐free therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke by reprogramming redox and inflammatory signaling. hDPSC secretome‐derived antioxidant and immunomodulatory factors suppress the TLR4–NOX–ROS–NF‐κB axis, reduce microglial inflammatory responses and apoptosis, and promote neurogenesis, angiogenesis ...

A Novel Pak1 Activator Ameliorates ER Stress for HFpEF Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic metabolic stress is a major contributor to HFpEF progression. Under prolonged metabolic stress, Pak1 activity becomes impaired, contributing to disrupted ER proteostasis, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, fibrosis, and diastolic dysfunction. Mechanistically, Pak1 overexpression activates the ERK1/2–MNK1–eIF4E signaling axis, promotes translational ...

Medical Tourism and the Libyan National Health Services [PDF]

open access: yesLibyan Journal of Medicine, 2007
Medical tourism is a term that is used frequently by the media and travel agencies as a catchall phrase to describe a process where people travel to other countries to obtain medical, dental, and/or surgical care [1,2].

Streptococcal Mannose Phosphotransferase System Component IID Is a Novel RANK‐Binding Osteoclastogenic Factor

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Streptococcal mannose phosphotransferase system component IID (Man‐PTSIID) is identified as a novel RANK‐binding osteoclastogenic factor. By directly binding to RANK and activating NF‐κB independently of TLR2, Man‐PTSIID drives osteoclastogenesis and inflammatory bone destruction, uncovering an unexpected microbial mechanism underlying streptococcal ...

Supporting post-pandemic recovery: a qualitative study of the capabilities, opportunities and motivations to deliver oral health behaviour change messages to parents of young children in community settings

open access: yesBMC Oral Health
Background The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated vulnerabilities and inequalities in children’s oral health, and treatment activity virtually ceased during periods of lockdown.

SIRT7‐Mediated H2BK120 Succinylation Drives Aberrant Mitophagy in Sepsis‐Associated Cognitive Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sepsis triggers hippocampal SIRT7 loss, promoting histone H2B succinylation and activation of the PD‐1/PD‐L1–PINK1 axis. This metabolic‐epigenetic cascade drives aberrant mitophagy and neuronal injury, ultimately causing cognitive deficits. Targeting SIRT7‐dependent succinylation offers a potential strategy to protect brain function during sepsis ...
