Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

A Maximum-Entropy Partial Parser for Unrestricted Text

open access: yes, 1998
This paper describes a partial parser that assigns syntactic structures to sequences of part-of-speech tags. The program uses the maximum entropy parameter estimation method, which allows a flexible combination of different knowledge sources: the ...

Emotion Recognition from Acted and Spontaneous Speech [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Dizertační práce se zabývá rozpoznáním emočního stavu mluvčích z řečového signálu. Práce je rozdělena do dvou hlavních častí, první část popisuju navržené metody pro rozpoznání emočního stavu z hraných databází.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

‘ARS MAIOR’, DONATUS: LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS CRITERIA

open access: yesGragoatá, 2016
This article aims at analyzing the grammatical approach given to the parts of speech (partes orationis), by Donatus in his Ars maior  (c. IV AD). We intend to evaluate which criteria are used to define, specify and illustrate the parts of speech.

Dependency relations as source context in phrase-based SMT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The Phrase-Based Statistical Machine Translation (PB-SMT) model has recently begun to include source context modeling, under the assumption that the proper lexical choice of an ambiguous word can be determined from the context in which it appears ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

The sound roots of Umóⁿhoⁿ

open access: yesLinguistic Typology at the Crossroads
This paper presents a corpus-based study of lexemes denoting sounds in Umóⁿhoⁿ (oma), a Siouan language of North America. I take as a starting point a list of sound-denoting verbal roots (in short: “sound roots”), presented as onomatopoeia in a paper by ...

Bilateralism: Negations, Implications and some Observations and Problems about Hypotheses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This short paper has two loosely connected parts. In the first part, I discuss the difference between classical and intuitionist logic in relation to different the role of hypotheses play in each logic.
