AbstractWe identified microsatellite sequences of potential utility in the house sparrow (Passer domesticus) and assigned their predicted genome locations. These sequences included newly isolated house sparrow loci, which we fully characterized. Many of the newly isolated loci were polymorphic in two other species of Passeridae: Berthelot’s pipit ...

Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2015
The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Onychostruthus taczanowskii consisted 16 917 bp, the genome harbored the same gene order with that of other birds, contained 13 protein-coding genes, 22 tRNAs, 2 rRNAs and 1 non-coding control region. The all tRNAs formed typical cloverleaf secondary structures, except tRNA(Ser (AGN)) and tRNA(Phe).

Complete mitochondrial genome of Tree Sparrow Passer montanus saturatus (Passeriformes: Passeridae)
Mitochondrial DNA Part A, 2014Tree Sparrow Passer montanus is an Eurasian distribution passerine bird, which has 9 subspecies. In this study, we determined the complete mitochondrial genome of Passer montanus saturatus. The mitochondrial DNA is 16,904 bp long with A + T contents of 52.56%. The mitochondrial genome is typical circular that encodes the complete set of 37 genes.

Recent studies have shown that mitochondria play a crucial role in cellular energy production through the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system. Complex I (NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase), the first and largest enzyme complex of the OXPHOS system, includes both nuclear- and mitochondrial-encoded proteins.

Finches have two major types of seed husking, each with two phases: crushing and seed husk disposal. Recent observations show that both Spice Finches and Greenfinches husk seeds by a crushing mechanism, but the Greenfinch, Carduelis chloris, applies mediolateral movements of the lower mandible, especially during seek husk disposal, while such movements

The African genus Hyliota includes three or four species of warbler-like birds of uncertain phylogenetic affinities, as it has historically been placed in different avian families that are now known to represent unrelated lineages: Malaconotidae (bush-shrikes), Platysteiridae (batises and wattle-eyes), Muscicapidae (Old World flycatchers) and Sylviidae

AbstractWe characterized 14 polymorphic microsatellite loci in the house sparrow Passer domesticus. Four loci were isolated from house sparrow genomic libraries and 10 loci were identified by testing 100 loci that had been originally isolated in other passerine species.
