Context‐Dependent Effects of Amino Acid Supplementation on Nestling Growth and Baseline Innate Immune Function

We experimentally supplemented great tit nestlings with methionine, leucine, or tap water to test how essential amino acids influence growth and immune function in forest and suburban habitats. Supplementation increased mass gain in smaller forest nestlings and enhanced lysis activity with methionine in suburban populations.

Variation in seed abundance predicts yolk fatty acid composition in a wild population of birds

Bird embryos develop inside eggs, which contain maternal substances that can shape offspring phenotype and fitness. Yolk fatty acids are a key energy source for the developing embryo, with omega‐6 (ω‐6) and omega‐3 (ω‐3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) obtained exclusively from the diet.

Energized fencing reduces risk of American black bear (Ursus americanus) damage to bird feeders in Minnesota

Energized fences were effective at reducing black bear damage to bird feeders. The fences were 100% effective in a good natural bear food year and 77% effective in a poor natural bear food year. When bears breached the fences, the cause was typically poor electrical grounding.
