IUCN Red List Regional Assessment of the Flora of Niue Utilising Indigenous Local Knowledge and Botanical Information

open access: yesJournal of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Volume 56, Issue 2, April 2026.
A regional assessment of the indigenous vascular plants of Niue is presented using the IUCN Red List criteria. The assessment was undertaken during a community workshop that drew on the indigenous local knowledge and scientific information. The assessment comprised 197 named taxa and 8 indeterminate entities, with 4 (2.0%) taxa assessed as Extinct and ...

Construction and Biological Characterization of Papaya Leaf Curl Guangdong Virus Infectious cDNA Clone

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 19, Issue 4, April 2026.
Viral diseases are important diseases on cash crops such as passion fruit, among which PaLCuGDV is one of the more severe in recent years. We constructed an infectious clone of PaLCuGDV for the first time and confirmed its infectivity through biological assays.

Fruit respiration: putting alternative pathways into perspective

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 1, Page 54-73, April 2026.
Summary Over the past century, research has significantly advanced our understanding of fruit respiration, from (eco)physiological processes to molecular mechanisms. This review focuses on the functional relevance and regulatory roles of mitochondrial alternative respiratory pathways (ARPs) during fruit growth and ripening.

Harnessing genomic resources for passion fruit improvement: Progress and prospects

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 19, Issue 1, March 2026.
Abstract Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) is a highly nutritious horticultural crop cultivated widely across tropical and subtropical regions. Despite decades of breeding efforts that have led to the release of a few high‐yielding cultivars, on‐farm productivity remains suboptimal, and several existing cultivars are showing signs of declining vigor ...

FAMILIA PASSIFLORACEAE

Separate and synergistic anti‐herbivore effects of non‐glandular trichomes and leaf chemistry in a desert plant

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 3, Page 736-749, March 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Plant defence phenotypes commonly integrate physical and chemical traits that may act synergistically against herbivores, but empirical evidence for synergy as a defence strategy remains limited.

Urbanization Intensity, Vegetation Cover and Plant Vigor Affects Stem Galls Occurrence and Abundance in a Widely Distributed Ruderal Tropical Plant

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
In this study, we demonstrate that urbanization intensity reduces the abundance of stem galls on Turnera subulata, while increased vegetation cover and plant vigor promote higher occurrence and abundance. These findings highlight the importance of native vegetation in sustaining specialized insect‐plant interactions and provide evidence that plant ...

Geographic Variation in the Pollination Biology of Passiflora lutea (Passifloraceae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Like most species of Passiflora, P. lutea is reported to produce one-day flowers with complicated floral movements and requires deposition of non-self pollen for fruit production. Medium sized bees are the most likely pollinators in central Texas.
