Space‐Time Coding Conformal Metasurfaces for Multifrequency Beam Steering and Shaping

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Space‐time coding conformal metasurfaces enable dynamic wave control on curved surfaces by combining programmable spatial patterns with temporal modulation. This study shows that a single conformal aperture can independently manipulate multiple frequency components, achieving multifunctional beam shaping and steering, with implications for ...

Coupling of Er3+ ions and Plasmonic Modes in Vertical Nanocavities for Spectral Broadening in Telecom Bands

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Left: Illustration of the glass & nanostructures system and the NIR emission at 1.5 µm, where the colored spheres represent the Er3+ ions within the doped glass. Right: Representation of the Stark splitting of the 4I13/2 and 4I15/2 manifolds of the Er3+, illustrating how the plasmonic modes facilitate the emission from the broader Stark manifold ...

The Political is Affective

open access: yesPassion
This paper argues that the political is affective based on the claim that politics and affects are relations of power. Recognizing this connection challenges long-standing dichotomies that have structured political theory: reason versus emotion, public ...

Passion for Violently Themed Music and Psychological Well-Being: A Survey Analysis

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences, 2022
While the benefits to mood and well-being from passionate engagement with music are well-established, far less is known about the relationship between passion for explicitly violently themed music and psychological well-being.

Transcription Factor Promiscuity Drives Regulatory Rewiring and Evolvability in Gene Networks in Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
When a master transcription factor (TF) is lost, bacteria can rapidly rewire gene regulatory networks by co‐opting related regulators. Using experimental evolution in Pseudomonas fluorescens, we show that TF promiscuity (low‐level, non‐cognate binding) provides the raw material for rewiring. Successful co‐option follows a predictable hierarchy governed

Investigating the Fundamental Base of Emotion Science

open access: yesPassion
How should we investigate folk emotion concepts for the purposes of anchoring scientific emotion concepts? In this article, I expand on Mun’s ideas on what she calls the fundamental base for interdisciplinary inquiry in the science of emotion.

The Lacerated Body of the Book: Bloody Animation of the Passion in a 15th Century Devotional Book

open access: yesReligions, 2022
The body and blood of Christ are essential to Christian liturgy and passion devotion. In medieval devotional books, this came to the fore in an overtly material way.
