Retrieval from memory: Vulnerable or inviolable? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We show that retrieval from semantic memory is vulnerable even to the mere presence of speech. Irrelevant speech impairs semantic fluency—namely, lexical retrieval cued by a semantic category name—but only if it is meaningful (forward speech compared to ...

Passive acoustic mapping for monitoring burst wave lithotripsy

open access: yes, 2023
Burst Wave Lithotripsy (BWL) is a non-invasive treatment modality for kidney stone fragmentation. Studies have shown that BWL induces lesser tissue damage than Shock Wave Lithotripsy and has no risk of infection, as observed in other treatment options such as ureteroscopy.

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Mapping of Physiological Signals From Wireless Battery‐Free Implants With Plane‐Wave Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Combined approach of electromagnetic (Power) and ultrasound (data harvesting) waves is proposed to address the miniaturized ultrasonic implants. Electromagnetic waves trigger the piezoelectric element to generate the acoustic pulse which is modulated by the variations in the sensor's impedance.
