Doppler imaging for passive bistatic radar

2013 IEEE Radar Conference (RadarCon13), 2013
In this paper we report on initial results into Doppler imaging, a technique by which both down and cross-range resolution are obtained with low bandwidth waveforms. Conventional radar imaging utilizes aperture synthesis to obtain cross-range resolution and relies on wideband waveforms for the downrange resolution.

Passive bistatic radar sensing with LEOS based transmitters

IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2003
In this paper we describe the concept of a bistatic SAR system which involves a purpose built stationary ground based receiver but which utilizes existing or proposed low earth orbit satellite (LEOS) communication systems, such as Globalstar or ICO as the transmitting signal sources. In general, such a system has a 3-D configuration (in contrast to the

GLRT-Based CFAR Detection in Passive Bistatic Radar

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2013
The work presented here addresses the problem of detecting a target in a passive bistatic radar (PBR) in the presence of interference signals, including receiver noise, direct signal, multipath/clutter echoes, and interfering targets. To this end, after outlining the model of the detection problem in the surveillance channel as a composite hypothesis ...

Target identification by a passive bistatic monochromatic wave Radar

2011 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2011
A forward model of bistatic scattering by PEC infinite elliptic cylinder based on the Physical Optics (PO) approximation is presented. The model is obtained by applying the stationary phase method to the PO integrals in both TE and TM wave cases. The aim is to obtain the shape and size of 2D targets illuminated by a monochromatic wave bistatic Radar. A

Optimization of Confirmation Time of Bistatic Tracks in Passive Radar

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2011
The paper presents a method for optimizing the mean confirmation time of a bistatic track (in bistatic range, bistatic velocity coordinates) in passive radar by adjusting the processing parameters. The track confirmation method is a standard cascaded logic, or "m out of n" logic. To provide high reliability of the confirmed tracks, the expected rate of

DRM signals for HF passive bistatic radar

IET International Conference on Radar Systems 2007, 2007
The concept of using digital HF signals in a passive radar configuration is discussed. Ambiguity functions of these signals are presented and a comparison of the waveform's properties is made with other signals of interest in passive radar in terms of their radar parameters.

Passive bistatic WiMAX radar for marine surveillance

2010 IEEE Radar Conference, 2010
In this study we investigate the feasibility of using passive bistatic radar to exploit WiMAX communication signals as transmitters of opportunity for marine surveillance. The range and Doppler characteristics of such a system are first assessed through ambiguity function analysis on a typical set of WiMAX data transmission waveforms.

Analysis of bistatic tracking accuracy in passive radar

2009 IEEE Radar Conference, 2009
In the paper, an analysis of bistatic tracking accuracy in passive radar is presented. The influence of parameters such as integration time, probability of false alarm, signal-to-noise ratio and spectral density of process noise is investigated. Simulations are performed for three popular types of illuminators of opportunity: FM, DAB and DVB-T.

The Signal and Interference Environment in Passive Bistatic Radar

2007 Information, Decision and Control, 2007
We present a review of the properties of some signals that may be used as illuminators of opportunity in passive bistatic radar systems. It is shown that such signals are not ideal for radar purposes, though modern digital modulation formats are to be preferred, since their ambiguity performance is better and in general does not vary with time. However,

Passive bistatic radar enhancement devices

Proceedings of the IEE Part C: Monographs, 1962
The usual enhancement devices are constructed to give a maximum monostatic echo area. This is achieved by setting up a uniform phase distribution in the effective aperture of the device independent of the angle of incidence. Bistatic echo-area enhancement may be achieved by altering this phase distribution.
