Passive Neutron Dosemeter Design
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2011A passive neutron dosemeter was designed to be used in mixed radiation fields. The design was carried out using Monte Carlo method. The dosemeter model was a 25.4 cmdiameter polyethylene sphere with a thermoluminescent dosemeter, TLD600, located at the sphere center.

The events at Fukushima Daiichi have greatly renewed the public focus on the safety of the existing fleet of nuclear reactors, especially as many US reactors share the same fundamental design—and safety systems—as the affected Japanese reactors. The authors explore the proposition that a transition to increasingly passive safety features in new ...

Rectenna design for passive RFID transponders
2007 European Microwave Conference, 2007This work emphasises rectenna design issues of passive RFID transponders for 868/915-MHz and 2.45-GHz ISM bands. The characterisation of transponder chip takes into account the impact of connecting antenna to rectifier by flip-chip bonding process. Proposed experimental way allows finding chip impedance exactly as it seen by antenna.

The term ‘Passive Design’ here refers to design strategies, technologies and solutions that effectively take advantage of the environmental conditions outside the building to maximise the energy and cost savings while ensuring the core building facilities and provisions (such as indoor comfort, safety, health, etc.) are not compromised.

Design Optimization of Passively Cooled Room
Journal of Energy Engineering, 1992We consider this paper an actual design implementation of a passively cooled room, employing the night‐cooling roof‐pond method. The main intended application in our case is of cool storage of agricultural products in the region of Northern Thailand. As there have been no roof‐pond systems specifically designed for the storage of agricultural products ...

Designing a Passive Retrodirective Wireless Sensor
IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, 2017This letter presents a wireless sensing approach implemented using a fully passive sensor element and a retrodirective antenna array. The utilized sensor is based on frequency modulation, and the proposed concept is investigated both theoretically and experimentally.

Passivity-Based Disturbance Observer Design
Volume 1: Adaptive/Intelligent Sys. Control; Driver Assistance/Autonomous Tech.; Control Design Methods; Nonlinear Control; Robotics; Assistive/Rehabilitation Devices; Biomedical/Neural Systems; Building Energy Systems; Connected Vehicle Systems; Control/Estimation of Energy Systems; Control Apps.; Smart Buildings/Microgrids; Education; Human-Robot Systems; Soft Mechatronics/Robotic Components/Systems; Energy/Power Systems; Energy Storage; Estimation/Identification; Vehicle Efficiency/Emissions, 2020Abstract A design method is proposed for a nonlinear disturbance observer based on the notion of passivity. As an initial application, we consider here systems whose structure comprises a set of integrator cascades, though the proposed approach can be extended to a larger class of systems.

It would be misleading to suggest, with the advent of operational amplifiers and digital synthesis techniques, that passive filters have no role to perform in modern circuit applications.
