Mixed passive / active strategy for fault tolerant control.
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2009Abstract This paper presents a general frame in which the passive and active fault tolerant control strategies are mixed, by implementing several controllers, each dedicated to a subset of faults. The faults under consideration are associated with different hardware configurations, a problem setting that covers actuator outages, sensor losses, and ...

Passive fault tolerant control of quadrotor UAV using a nonlinear PID
2015 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2015In this paper a passive fault tolerant controller based on nonlinear PID backstepping is proposed for a quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicle. The proposed approach is able to ensure robustness and maintain performance in presence of both actuators faults and parameters changes.

Active versus passive fault tolerant control of a High Redundancy Actuator
2009 European Control Conference (ECC), 2009The High Redundancy Actuator (HRA project investigates the use of large numbers of small actuation elements to achieve fault tolerance. The large number of components involved poses a unique challenge from a control perspective. This paper presents the two main options to control the HRA: using robust control (passive fault tolerance), and ...

Passive supervisor for railway fault-tolerant Ethernet networked control systems
ETFA2011, 2011In this study, OPNET simulations are run to study the performance of a single Gigabit Ethernet two-wagon train control network. The network carries both control and entertainment loads. Each wagon has two servers; a Controller to carry the control load and an Entertainment Server to carry the entertainment load.

Passive/active fault tolerant control for LTI systems with actuator outages
2009 European Control Conference (ECC), 2009Many fault tolerant control applications consider a set of faults that is known in advance. Passive and active fault tolerance schemes aim at guaranteeing stability and performances for the whole set, differing by the level of simplicity and performance they allow.

Passive Fault Tolerance for a Magnetic Bearing Under PID Control
Volume 4: Manufacturing Materials and Metallurgy; Ceramics; Structures and Dynamics; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; Education; IGTI Scholar Award, 2001NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) has developed a Fault-Tolerant Magnetic Bearing Suspension rig to enhance the safety of the bearing system for multiple component failures. A simple proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller with no fault detection mechanisms was tested in a passive way where the initial bias current and control gains for all ...

Passive actuator fault tolerant control for a class of MIMO nonlinear systems with uncertainties
International Journal of Control, 2017ABSTRACTFault tolerant control of affine class of multi-input multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear systems has not received considerable attention of researchers compared to other class of nonlinear syste...

Passive fault tolerant control design of energy management system for electric vehicle
2014 IEEE 23rd International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2014In this paper, we present a passive fault tolerant control energy management for two-converters parallel configuration in electrical vehicle system. The passive FTC is based on H-infinity approach (H-infinity full order and fixed H-infinity structure); this PFTC is coupled with the optimal control to optimize the consumption of the FC fuel.
