Analysis and Design of Passive Polyphase Filters

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Regular Papers, 2008
Passive RC polyphase filters (PPFs) are analyzed in detail in this paper. First, a method to calculate the output signals of an n-stage PPF is presented. As a result, all relevant properties of PPFs, such as amplitude and phase imbalance and loss, are calculated.

A sharp programmable passive filter based on filtering by Aliasing

2015 Symposium on VLSI Circuits (VLSI Circuits), 2015
This paper presents the 1st integrated circuit demonstration of Filtering by Aliasing (FA). FA is a recent technique that uses linear periodically time varying (LPTV) analog circuitry prior to a sampler to provide a desired CT-to-DT transfer function. Such LPTV signal processing offers far superior programmability and performance relative to LTI design.

A Revisit to Strictly Passive FIR Filtering

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II: Express Briefs, 2018
This brief revisits the strictly passive finite impulse response (FIR) filtering problem in discrete-time state space. An initial result on the strictly passive FIR filter was presented by Ahn in 2012, but was restricted to state-space models with a nonsingular system matrix, which limits the scope of application. In this brief, we propose a new design

Multi-output passive digital filters

2004 IEEE Electro/Information Technology Conference, 2004
In this paper, a new family of four multi-output second-order passive digital filters constructed from four passive digital two-ports are presented. The conditions for passivity in a passive digital two-port are first defined. Four passive two-ports are introduced, their passivity and stability constraints on coefficients, and pseudopower expressions ...

Combined system of a series active filter and a shunt passive filter—an optimum design of the shunt passive filter

Electrical Engineering in Japan, 1993
AbstractThe combined system of a series active filter and a shunt passive filter that is proposed by the authors has the ability to eliminate a major disadvantage of shunt passive filters, namely, harmonic amplification. The series active filter needs a much smaller kVA rating than a conventional shunt active filter, and as a result, the combined ...

Design and development of passive filter and comparative study of simulation results of passive and Active filter

2015 International Conference on Energy Systems and Applications, 2015
Now a days use of nonlinear devices has been increased to a large extend. In the power system reforms some of the power supplying companies take into consideration the presence of harmonics as one of the parameter in the tariff. Therefore as we control the power factor within the limit using APFC panel, it is today's need to use appropriate filter to ...

RC Passive Notch Filters

IETE Journal of Research, 1976
A critical study of various types of passive notch filters is made. The distributed parameter notch filters are found to be superior in performance as compared to the lumped RC and lumped-distributed types. The frequency response curves indicate that tapering in distributed notch filters improves the notch selectivity.

Passive cascaded lattice digital filters

ICASSP '79. IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1980
Energy relations are developed for the analysis of cascaded two pair lattice digital filters, where the individual sections are passive. Conditions of the passivity are shown in the form of inequalities containing parameters of the section, which are described as linear four-pole networks.

Passive waveguide filters on InP

Frontiers in Optics, 2003
Passive IIR filters in InGaAsP/InP waveguides were realized using ring resonators and photonic crystal cavities. The filter response of the fabricated devices was characterized by transmission and group delay measurements. Dispersion larger than 100 ps/nm was achieved with a ring resonator having a free spectral range of 100 GHz.

Nonlinear passive acoustic filtering

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1988
in an ear muff intended for protection against excessive noise exposure, the passive means (8) according to this invention automatically and continuously varies the amount of reduction provided for the sound arriving at the ear of the wearer; it retains substantially unaltered the performance of the ear muff for high sound levels, but effects a ...
