Design and characterization of a passive recycle micromixer
Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2004A new design was devised for a recycle micromixer, i.e., a passive micromixer with side channels for a recycle flow. The geometry, required to perform a recycle flow and effective mixing, was determined by a simulation based on computational fluid dynamics.

Investigation of Mixing Performance in Passive Micromixers
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2016This work is focused on the mixing performance in passive microchannels. Experiments are performed to investigate the effect of inlet mixing angle and surface wettability on the micromixing efficiency in micromixers. The iodate–iodide testing reaction and a micro particle image velocimetry (micro-PIV) system are adopted to characterize the micromixing ...

Numerical Analysis on a Passive Chaotic Micromixer with Helical Microchannel
Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2006In order to improve the mixing efficiency, the diffusion and mixing of species in the helical micro-mixer are simulated numerically. The results show that the mixing efficiency in the helical micro-mixer is much higher than that in the straight micro-channel and obviously higher than that in the serpentine micro-channel when Reynolds number is low. Passive Micromixer with Sharp Edges: Simulation and Optimization
2020 21st International Conference on Thermal, Mechanical and Multi-Physics Simulation and Experiments in Microelectronics and Microsystems (EuroSimE), 2020In this study, the mixing performances of passive micromixers with sharp edges were investigated. First, a validation study was conducted by using experimental results on a passive micromixers in the literature. The arrangement of the triangle obstacles was then changed to optimize the mixing performance.

Numerical study of a novel passive micromixer design
2010 12th IEEE Intersociety Conference on Thermal and Thermomechanical Phenomena in Electronic Systems, 2010Miniaturization is the trend in analytical chemistry and life sciences. In the past two decades, miniaturization of fluid handling and fluid analysis has been emerging in the interdisciplinary research field of microfluidics. Some of the microfluidic applications are drug delivery, lab-on-a-chip, pharmaceutical development, synthesis of amino acids etc.

Staggered passive micromixers with fractal surface patterning
Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2006We present a procedure for inducing chaotic mixing based on a non-periodic patterning of the walls making use of the Weierstrass fractal function to generate the locations for the grooves. We show the numerical analysis of flow in three different geometries generated with the Weierstrass function and compare the results with a fourth geometry, quite ...

Evaluation of the mixing performance of three passive micromixers
Chemical Engineering Journal, 2009Abstract This work presents a numerical investigation on mixing and flow structures in microchannels with different geometries: zig-zag; square-wave; and curved. To conduct the investigation, geometric parameters, such as the cross-section of the channel, channel height, axial length of the channel, and number of pitches, are kept constant for all ...

Passive micromixer with obstructions for lab-on-a-chip applications
SPIE Proceedings, 2005A new passive micromixer has been developed with a low dependence on Reynolds number. The mixer design contains obstructions inside the mixing microchannels to breakup the flow resulting in chaotic mixing. Using CFDRC ACE+ software the mixer was modeled and was shown to completely mix water and glycerin in less than 1 cm.

Micromixers—a review on passive and active mixing principles
Chemical Engineering Science, 2005A review on microstructured mixer devices and their mixing principles concerning miscible liquids (and gases) is given. This is supplemented by the description of typical mixing element designs, methods for mixing characterisation, and application fields.

Frequency-Controlled Wireless Passive Thermopneumatic Micromixer
Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2017This paper reports a novel wireless control of a thermopneumatic zigzag micromixer achieved by selectively activating two passive wireless heaters enabled by an external radiofrequency magnetic field. The two heaters, which are designed to have different resonant frequency (f r ) values of 100 and 130 MHz, are selectively activated by modulating the ...
