Effect of Fin-Shaped Electrodes on Flow Mixing and Pressure Drop in an Electroosmotic Micromixer [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, 2023
Production of a homogeneous solution is of great interest for Lab-on-a-Chip (LOC) applications. Since the fluid flow in microchannels is laminar, the LOC devices have low mixing efficiency in passive mixers.

An example of passive micromixer design, simulation and optimization [PDF]

open access: yes2015 4th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2015
The paper presents the designing process of the passive micromixer. Design parameters of microfluidic channel's geometry are optimized based on flow simulation results. CAD software Solid Works and application Flo Xpress are used for designing and simulation. Aim of presented student's work is not connected to any actual research activities.

Numerical study of fluid mixing at different inlet flow-rate ratios in Tear-drop and Chain micromixers compared to a new H-C passive micromixer

open access: yesEngineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics, 2016
A new split and recombine (SAR) passive micromixer, namely the H-C mixer, is presented. The performance of the micromixer is analyzed numerically at Reynolds numbers up to 100, varying the inlet flow-rate ratio.

Numerical investigation of a curved micromixer using different arrangements of cylindrical obstacles

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2023
Curved micromixers are one of the most widely used types of passive micromixers that perform better than straight micromixers. Yet the main disadvantage of these micromixers is low mixing efficiency at low Reynolds numbers.

Swirl-inducing inlet for passive micromixers

open access: yesRSC Adv., 2014
This paper proposes a swirl-inducing inlet as a simple and effective method to improve fluid mixing in passive micromixers in the range of Re > 20. A pair of antisymmetric barriers are placed in the mixer inlets to generate angular momentum in the flow and induce a swirling flow structure.

Geometric effects on fluid mixing in passive grooved micromixers [PDF]

open access: yesLab on a Chip, 2005
The effects of geometric parameters on the mixing performance of a staggered herringbone mixer (SHM) with patterned grooves are numerically investigated. Combining use of the software package CFD-ACE+ and the Taguchi method provides a powerful and systematic approach for research on microfluidics.
