Passive micromixer with break-up obstructions

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
In this paper, we report on design and fabrication of a passive microfluidic mixer capable of mixing at low Reynolds numbers ( Re ). Passive mixers typically use channel geometry to mix fluids, and many previously reported designs that work only at moderate to high Reynolds numbers and are often difficult to fabricate.

Frequency-Controlled Wireless Passive Thermopneumatic Micromixer

Journal of Microelectromechanical Systems, 2017
This paper reports a novel wireless control of a thermopneumatic zigzag micromixer achieved by selectively activating two passive wireless heaters enabled by an external radiofrequency magnetic field. The two heaters, which are designed to have different resonant frequency (f r ) values of 100 and 130 MHz, are selectively activated by modulating the ...

Recirculating, passive micromixer with a novel sawtooth structure

Lab Chip, 2006
A microfluidic device capable of recirculating nano to microlitre volumes in order to efficiently mix solutions is described. The device consists of molded polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS) channels with pressure inlet and outlet holes sealed by a glass lid. Recirculation is accomplished by a repeatedly reciprocated flow over an iterated sawtooth structure.

Passive Vortex Micromixers Utilizing Hybrid Laminations

Volume 13: Nano-Manufacturing Technology; and Micro and Nano Systems, Parts A and B, 2008
This theoretical investigation analyzed the three-dimensional momentum and mass transfer characteristics arising from the multiple inlets and single outlet in micro chamber which consists of a right square prism, an octagonal prism or a cylinder. The effects of various geometric parameters, inlet velocities, and the types of lamination on the mixing ...

Mathematical Analysis of a Spiral Passive Micromixer

2021
This research work possesses a mathematical analysis and comparison of mixing performance and flow behavior inside microchannels with different geometries: simple T shape and spiral/helical shape. The flow analysis is carried out using Navier–Stokes equations, and mixing performance of two fluids, namely water and dye, is numerically calculated.

Passive Micromixer with Sharp Edges: Simulation and Optimization

2020 21st International Conference on Thermal, Mechanical and Multi-Physics Simulation and Experiments in Microelectronics and Microsystems (EuroSimE), 2020
In this study, the mixing performances of passive micromixers with sharp edges were investigated. First, a validation study was conducted by using experimental results on a passive micromixers in the literature. The arrangement of the triangle obstacles was then changed to optimize the mixing performance.

A flexible layout design method for passive micromixers

Biomedical Microdevices, 2012
This paper discusses a flexible layout design method of passive micromixers based on the topology optimization of fluidic flows. Being different from the trial and error method, this method obtains the detailed layout of a passive micromixer according to the desired mixing performance by solving a topology optimization problem.

Staggered passive micromixers with fractal surface patterning

Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2006
We present a procedure for inducing chaotic mixing based on a non-periodic patterning of the walls making use of the Weierstrass fractal function to generate the locations for the grooves. We show the numerical analysis of flow in three different geometries generated with the Weierstrass function and compare the results with a fourth geometry, quite ...

Investigation of Mixing Performance in Passive Micromixers

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2016
This work is focused on the mixing performance in passive microchannels. Experiments are performed to investigate the effect of inlet mixing angle and surface wettability on the micromixing efficiency in micromixers. The iodate–iodide testing reaction and a micro particle image velocimetry (micro-PIV) system are adopted to characterize the micromixing ...
