Simple passive micromixer using recombinant multiple flow streams

SPIE Proceedings, 2007
A passive microfluidic mixer with high performance is designed and fabricated in this work. Diamond-shaped obstacles were chosen to split the flow into several streams, which are then guided back together after the obstacle. To keep pressure drop low, the channel cross-sectional area was maintained equal to the input cross-sectional area, and this was ...

Numerical study of a novel passive micromixer design

2010 12th IEEE Intersociety Conference on Thermal and Thermomechanical Phenomena in Electronic Systems, 2010
Miniaturization is the trend in analytical chemistry and life sciences. In the past two decades, miniaturization of fluid handling and fluid analysis has been emerging in the interdisciplinary research field of microfluidics. Some of the microfluidic applications are drug delivery, lab-on-a-chip, pharmaceutical development, synthesis of amino acids etc.

Design and characterization of a passive recycle micromixer

Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, 2004
A new design was devised for a recycle micromixer, i.e., a passive micromixer with side channels for a recycle flow. The geometry, required to perform a recycle flow and effective mixing, was determined by a simulation based on computational fluid dynamics.

Development of a Three Dimensional Passive Lamination Micromixer

ASME-JSME-KSME 2011 Joint Fluids Engineering Conference: Volume 2, Fora, 2011
In this paper, we propose a three-dimentional multi-layered flow generator fabricated by inclined UV lithography to expose a single layerded photoresist coated on a patterned mask. To confirm the validity of the proposed generator, we applied the three-layered flow generator as a passive lamination micromixer.

Numerical Analysis on a Passive Chaotic Micromixer with Helical Microchannel

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2006
In order to improve the mixing efficiency, the diffusion and mixing of species in the helical micro-mixer are simulated numerically. The results show that the mixing efficiency in the helical micro-mixer is much higher than that in the straight micro-channel and obviously higher than that in the serpentine micro-channel when Reynolds number is low. Selective wireless control of a passive thermopneumatic micromixer

2016 IEEE 29th International Conference on Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS), 2016
This paper reports a novel wireless control of a thermopneumatic zig-zag micromixer by selectively activating two passive wireless heaters enabled by an external radiofrequency magnetic field. Each heater generates heat when the external field frequency is tuned to the corresponding resonant frequency (fr) of the heater.

Micromixer: Alternative Passive Solution With Injection Amplificator System

ASME 2011 9th International Conference on Nanochannels, Microchannels, and Minichannels, Volume 2, 2011
Mixing rate is characterized by the diffusion flux given by the Fick’s law. A passive mixing strategy is proposed to enhance mixing of two fluids through perturbed jet flow. A numerical study of passive mixers has been presented. This paper is focused on the modeling of a micro-injection systems composed of passive amplifier without mechanical part ...

Passive In-Plane Micromixer for Slow Diffusing Liquids

Volume 12: Micro and Nano Systems, Parts A and B, 2009
The problem of passive micromixing has been analyzed. Laminar flow in microchannels implies that transport processes including mass transfer are dominated by diffusion; inertial effects and have little to no effect on mixing in small scale conduits. Study of the diffusion theory shows that the velocity at the interface of fluids intended to be mixed is

A model for laminar diffusion-based complex electrokinetic passive micromixers

Lab on a Chip, 2005
This paper presents a model for the efficient and accurate simulations of laminar diffusion-based complex electrokinetic passive micromixers by representing them as a system of mixing elements of relatively simple geometry. Parameterized and analytical models for such elements are obtained, which hold for general sample concentration profiles and ...

Passive split and recombination micromixer with convergent–divergent walls

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2012
Abstract A passive micromixer featuring convergent–divergent channel walls with sinusoidal variations is proposed in this work. The main channel splits into two sub-channels that recombine at regular intervals along the microchannel’s length. To evaluate mixing performance, steady Navier–Stokes equations with a diffusion–convection model for species ...
