Optical transceivers for passive optical networks (PON)
2006 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2006Optical transceivers used for the passive optical networks (PON) are bi-directional devices that use different wavelengths to transmit and receive signals between the optical line terminal (OLT) at the central office and the optical network units (ONUs) at the end users' premises over a single fiber.

A comparison of passive optical network security
SPIE Proceedings, 2009In this paper, a comparison of the physical security aspects of a time division multiplexed (TDM) passive optical network (PON) and a proposed wavelength hopping passive optical network (WH-PON) is presented. Simulated results of an eavesdropping attempt in both networks are presented. The introduction of a WH-PON will demonstrate how physical layer

Extended-Reach Passive Optical Networks
Advanced Photonics, 2011We review several techniques to extend the reach of PON beyond 60 km utilizing a repeater at the remote node and distributed Raman amplification. We also discuss practical deployment issues and economics of extended-reach PON.

Passive optical network layout in Manhattan
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2003In this paper, we discuss the passive optical network (PON) deployment on an arbitrary grid. We show that this problem in general is NP-hard. We propose an algorithm, which guarantees a solution of 3-approximation to the optimal deployment, and further argue that this is the best lower bound achievable in our case.

Free Space Passive Optical Network
2018This paper proposes free space passive optical network (FSPON) as a potential candidate of high data rate access network based on optical wireless transmission. FSPON could be considered for indoor as well as outdoor deployments. Pending the progress in FSO range, it is appropriate for short range communication network.
