Calibrating borehole seismic attributes with passive seismic data

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2003, 2003
In this paper we describe a number of fundamental seismic attributes that can be determined from passive seismic borehole recordings. Passive data can be used to determine not only direct images of reservoir fracturing, but also background borehole noise characteristics, velocity model details including lateral variations and anisotropic ...

Passive Pressure During Seismic Loading

Journal of Geotechnical Engineering, 1986
The results of a parametric study (based on a Mononobe-Okabe analysis) of passive earth pressure resistance of cohesionless soils under dynamic loading are presented. Since passive resistance decreases with increasing ground acceleration while the failure zone increases in size, retaining structures designed for static loading conditions may prove to ...

Passive seismic imaging using microearthquakes

GEOPHYSICS, 1995
We have developed a method of processing seismic signals generated by microearthquakes to image local subsurface structure beneath a recording station. This technique uses the autocorrelation of the vertically traveling earthquake signals to generate pseudoreflection seismograms that can be interpreted for subsurface structure.

Imaging passive seismic data

GEOPHYSICS, 2006
Imaging passive seismic data is the process of synthesizing the wealth of subsurface information available from reflection seismic experiments by recording ambient sound using an array of geophones distributed at the surface. Crosscorrelating the traces of such a passive experiment can synthesize data that are identical to actively collected reflection

Uncertainties in passive seismic monitoring

The Leading Edge, 2009
The use of passive seismic techniques to monitor oil- field completion and production processes is on the rise. Stress changes induced by such reservoir activities as hydraulic fracturing, water injection, or fluid extraction will often result in failure of the rocks with a concurrent release of seismic energy in the form of compressional (P) and shear

Passive Seismic Marchenko Imaging

2020
<p>In recent years, seismic interferometry (SI) has been widely used in passive seismic data, it allows to retrieve new seismic responses among physical receivers by cross-correlation or multidimensional deconvolution (MDD). Retrieval of reflected body waves from passive seismic data has been proved to be feasible.

Frontier Exploration Using Passive Seismic

First EAGE Passive Seismic Workshop - Exploration and Monitoring Applications, 2006
We present a case history of 3-D seismic imaging in the Uinta Basin of Utah using passive seismic as an example of how passive techniques can aid exploration efforts in frontier areas. The area is topographically rugged making conventional seismic exploration expensive.

Efficient Computation of Passive Seismic Interferometry

69th EAGE Conference and Exhibition incorporating SPE EUROPEC 2007, 2007
P214 Efficient Computation of Passive Seismic Interferometry J.W. Thorbecke* (Delft University of Technology) & G.G. Drijkoningen (Delft University of Technology) SUMMARY Seismic interferometry is from a computationally point of view based on cross-correlating two signals. One application of seismic interferometry lies in passive seismics.

Surface Passive Seismic in Kuwait

First EAGE Passive Seismic Workshop - Exploration and Monitoring Applications, 2006
Surface passive seismic is a direct hydrocarbon saturation indicator technique. It detects the presence of subsurface hydrocarbons by recording and spectroscopically analyzing the low-frequency acoustic/seismic background noise (between 0.5- 10 Hz) which is actively emitted by the earth.
