Towards an integrated molecular understanding of plant hormones
This review offers a comprehensive overview of the nine plant hormones, delving into their biosynthesis, transport, signaling and crosstalk mechanisms. Because the complexity of plant hormonal control goes beyond these core elements, additional specific features are discussed. Lastly, this review highlights how fundamental insights drive hormonal‐based

The relationship between croup and the presence of household cigarette consumption was assessed in a matched-pair case control study. Fifty subjects with a primary hospital discharge diagnosis of croup were paired with children with a primary hospital discharge diagnosis of abdominal hernia. The results yielded an estimated relative risk of 0.82.

Absorption of harmful and irritative components of cigarette smoke by nonsmokers may result in both acute and long-term health problems. Persons with asthma or coronary artery disease are at particularly high risk of developing problems. Children living with smokers are at increased risk of persistent middle ear effusions and lower respiratory tract ...

Members of the Thoracic Society of Australia have determined that passive smoking presents a significant threat to the health of nonsmokers. Passive smoke exposure is associated with an increased frequency of asthma attacks a possible increased risk of sudden infant death syndrome an increased rate of respiratory infections in children under 5 years ...

Air pollution due to tobacco smoke and its effects on employees were investigated in 44 workrooms. For this purpose, the concentrations of CO, NO, NO2, nicotine, and particulate matter were determined, and 472 employees were interviewed about annoyance and irritations. The mean values of the concentrations of the components due to tobacco smoke are: CO

I read with great interest the special report, “The health risks of passive smoking” (Chest 1983; 84:90-5). The nonsmokers’ rights movements have little power in Japan at present. In many cases, Japanese smokers themselves should be chastised for their smoking habits. They smoke in public, on trains, and even in the office at work.
