DNA ligase LigE increases bacterial transformation with damaged extracellular DNA

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The DNA ligase LigE from the naturally competent Gram‐negative bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoaea increases transformation with cut extracellular DNA. This process is ATP‐dependent and relies on the catalytic activity of LigE; it also requires that LigE contains an intact periplasmic localisation sequence, indicating that ligE functions in the periplasm ...

The Impact of History of Aggression and Alcohol Use on Aggressive: Responding in the Laboratory

open access: yesSubstance Abuse: Research and Treatment, 2019
The current study examines how different levels of past aggression combined with self-reported levels of alcohol use impacted lab-based aggressive responding. Data were collected from 160 male undergraduate college students. Participants completed online

Comparing the paths of Hedgehog release in artificial and natural settings

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hh morphogens require solubilization factors to overcome their tight association with the plasma membrane and signal to distant cells, but the precise functions of these factors are controversial. Here, we use published in vivo observations as the most relevant evidence to test their suggested functions and discuss contradictions and gaps between in ...

How structural disorder and polyelectrolyte properties of prothymosin α enable its large interactome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this review, complexes of the fully disordered and highly negatively charged prothymosin α are collected, described, and discussed. Linked to its poly‐electrostatic character, prothymosin α engages a large interactome through multiple different binding modes ranging from fully disordered complexes to short linear motif (SLiM)‐driven interactions ...

Social Psychological Determinants of Bicycle Commuting in Russia: An Empirical Examination of the Model of Goal-Directed Behavior

open access: yesСоциальная психология и общество, 2016
This paper reports on the outcomes of verification of Perugini and Bagozzi’s model of goal-directed behavior, according to which determinants of bicycle commuting include one’s intention to behave this way, perceived behavioral control and frequency of ...

Pasting and Gel Behavior of Durum Wheat Derivatives

open access: yesGels
Durum wheat (Triticum durum) is one of the main raw materials in the food industry, used primarily in the production of pasta. During milling, semolina and flour are obtained with different size distributions, and different compositional and functional characteristics, which influence processes such as gelatinization, retrogradation and the final ...

In vitro and in silico modelling of ROS1‐positive non‐small cell lung cancer reveals fusion‐dependent tyrosine kinase inhibitor responses

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Drug resistance limits treatment success in a subset of lung cancers driven by ROS1 gene alterations. Using patient‐derived cells and computer simulations, we studied three key mutations and how they affect five targeted drugs. The mutations reduced drug effectiveness in different ways by altering protein structure and behavior.

Past behavior : the best predictor of future behavior - or is it?

open access: yes, 1997
Firms have traditionally focused on attracting new customers. However, since the early 1980’s, service researchers have drawn attention to the need to retain and do more business with current customers, as this has shown to provide substantial benefits.
