Contrasting Embryogenic Trajectories Reveal Spatial Control as a Key Determinant of Embryogenic Competence in Theobroma cacao L.

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, Volume 178, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Somatic embryogenesis (SE) in Theobroma cacao is a micropropagation technique of great importance but remains constrained by genotype recalcitrance. The cellular and molecular mechanisms distinguishing regenerative from non‐regenerative responses remain poorly understood.

Multimodel Diffusion MRI Signatures in Atypical Parkinsonian Disorders

open access: yesHuman Brain Mapping, Volume 47, Issue 11, 01 August 2026.
We implemented a diffusion MRI framework to analyze clinically compatible multishell data across 123 participants, including controls, Parkinson's disease (PD), corticobasal syndrome (CBS), and progressive supranuclear palsy Richardson's syndrome (PSP‐RS). Diffusion models included DTI, free‐water elimination (FWE), NODDI, and fixel‐based analysis (FBA)

Compound Impacts of Drought and Soil Salinity on Maize Productivity

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 62, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Intensifying soil drought poses a significant threat to maize yields in China. However, the compounding effects of soil drought and salinity remain poorly understood. Here, we analyze maize yield trends in China from 1982 to 2016 and show that an increase in the total number of drought days is associated with significant yield declines.

The House Appropriations Committee Surveys & Investigations Staff and the Arc of Congressional Competence

open access: yesLegislative Studies Quarterly, Volume 51, Issue 3, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This article follows the arc of congressional competence through the development and decline of the House Appropriations Committee (HAC) Surveys & Investigations (S&I) staff, an enduring oversight unit whose investigations were unobserved by design. S&I was quietly reorganized out of existence in December 2024. Why? What, if anything, is lost?
