Spawning, egg development and early ontogenesis in rock cod Patagonotothen ramsayi (Regan, 1913) caught on the Patagonian Shelf and maintained in captivity

Polar Biology, 2013
Rock cod Patagonotothen ramsayi (Regan, 1913) is one of the most abundant fish of the family Nototheniidae inhabiting the Patagonian Shelf and upper Slope in the southwest Atlantic. Recently, P. ramsayi became an important commercial species around the Falkland Islands with annual catch of 60,000–75,000 t.

Age and growth of a sub-Antarctic notothenioid, Patagonotothen ramsayi (Regan 1913), from the Falkland Islands

Polar Biology, 2005
The Falklands’ rockcod Patagonotothen ramsayi was aged successfully using whole and sectioned otoliths. Marginal increment analysis showed that one opaque and one translucent zone were laid down each year. Counting daily rings in juvenile fish and back calculating to their assumed hatch dates validated the first annulus.

New Species of Acanthochondria (Copepoda: Chondracanthidae) Infecting the Longtail Southern Cod, Patagonotothen ramsayi (Perciformes: Nototheniidae), from Patagonian Waters, Argentina

Journal of Parasitology, 2011
Acanthochondria lilianae n. sp. (Copepoda: Chondracanthidae) is described and illustrated based on specimens of both sexes collected from inner surface of the operculum of the longtail southern cod, Patagonotothen ramsayi (Regan) (Perciformes: Nototheniidae), from the Patagonian Shelf, Argentina (42-48°S, 60-63°W). Acanthochondria lilianae n. sp.

From small bycatch to main commercial species: Explosion of stocks of rock cod Patagonotothen ramsayi (Regan) in the Southwest Atlantic

Fisheries Research, 2013
Abstract The Patagonian Shelf ecosystem is considered to be a wasp-waist ecosystem controlled by medium-sized planktivores Patagonian squid Doryteuthis gahi , rock cod Patagonotothen ramsayi , and southern blue whiting Micromesistius australis .

Effects of microbial transglutaminase on textural, water distribution, and microstructure of frozen‐stored longtail southern cod (Patagonotothen ramsayi) fish mince gel

Journal of Texture Studies, 2022
AbstractFrozen‐stored fish mince tend to have poor gelling ability due to significant myosin denaturation caused by freezing. In this study, microbial transglutaminase (MTGase) was used to improve the quality of fish mince gel products made from frozen‐stored longtail southern cod (LSC).

From gelatinous to muscle food chain: rock cod Patagonotothen ramsayi recycles coelenterate and tunicate resources on the Patagonian Shelf

Journal of Fish Biology, 2013
Stomach contents of 4808 fishes of 20 species caught in the eastern part of the Patagonian Shelf between 1999 and 2012 were analysed to assess dietary contributions of gelatinous plankton resources. Gelatinous plankton occurred in diets of seven species with two species, Patagonotothen ramsayi and Squalus acanthias, having >10% ctenophores in their ...

Rock cod, Patagonotothen ramsayi as a keyspecies in the Falkland Islands ecosystem

2011
No abstracts are to be cited without prior reference to the author.Rock cod (Patagonotothen ramsayi) is a key species in the shelf waters of the Falkland Islands. It consumes a variety of planktonic and benthic organisms and together with the squid (Loligo gahi) is the most important prey for large predatory fish, representing 35–60% of the diet of ...
