Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The Effect of Temperature on Physicochemical Properties of Moringa Leaf Ethanolic Extract (Moringa oleifera L.) Patch and Anti-Inflamatory Test

open access: yesJournal of Food and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Moringa leaf extract contains flavonoids confirmed as anti-inflammatory at 200 mg/Kg b.w. The patch was chosen for topical anti-inflammatory preparation because it is continuous for an extended treatment period.

Prediction of Resthenosis After Carotid Endarterectomy by the Method of Computer Simulation

open access: yesНеотложная медицинская помощь, 2021
The article describes a computer modeling technique that allows predicting the development of restenosis of the internal carotid artery after carotid endarterectomy (CEE).

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

High order continuous polygonal patches [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A polygonal patch method is described which can be used to fill a polygonal hole within a given k'th order continuous rectangular patch complex. The method is relatively easy to implement, since it only re- quires Ck extensions of the rectangular patch ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Transdermal iontophoresis patch with reverse electrodialysis

open access: yesDrug Delivery, 2017
Reverse electrodialysis (RED) technology generates energy from the salinity gradient by contacting waters with different salinity. Herein, we develop the disposable skin patch using this eco-friendly energy.

Global analysis of a multi-group SIR epidemic model with nonlinear incidence rates and distributed moving delays between patches

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, 2016
In this paper, applying Lyapunov functional approach, we establish sufficient conditions under which each equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable for a class of multi-group SIR epidemic models.
