Construction of analysis-suitable $G^1$ planar multi-patch parameterizations

open access: yes, 2017
Isogeometric analysis allows to define shape functions of global $C^{1}$ continuity (or of higher continuity) over multi-patch geometries. The construction of such $C^{1}$-smooth isogeometric functions is a non-trivial task and requires particular multi ...

Does the waggle dance help honey bees to forage at greater distances than expected for their body size? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
A honey bee colony has been likened to an oil company. Some members of the company or colony prospect for valuable liquid resources. When these are discovered other group members can be recruited to exploit the resource. The recruitment of nestmates to a

A new concept of surgical patch used in vascular surgery [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
During the surgery of atherosclerotic plaques removal, a longitudinal artery incision is made. Frequently used practice is sewing a patch in the incision area. It reduces the risk of narrowing of the artery but also causes its widening.

A Latent Source Model for Patch-Based Image Segmentation

open access: yes, 2015
Despite the popularity and empirical success of patch-based nearest-neighbor and weighted majority voting approaches to medical image segmentation, there has been no theoretical development on when, why, and how well these nonparametric methods work.

Miniaturised single‐layer bandpass filters using triple and quad‐mode patch resonators

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation, 2023
The authors propose miniaturised single‐layer bandpass filters (BPFs) by utilising a kind of new triple‐ and quad‐mode patch resonators. The triple‐mode resonator consists of a shortened square patch and a loaded metallic via at the centre ...

Understanding tetrahedral liquids through patchy colloids

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the structural properties of a simple model for tetrahedral patchy colloids in which the patch width and the patch range can be tuned independently.

Sickle Cell Disease Is an Inherent Risk for Asthma in a Sibling Comparison Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Sickle cell disease (SCD) and asthma share a complex relationship. Although estimates vary, asthma prevalence in children with SCD is believed to be comparable to or higher than the general population. Determining whether SCD confers an increased risk for asthma remains challenging due to overlapping symptoms and the ...

SRR metamaterial-based broadband patch antenna for wireless communications

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Applied Science, 2022
This paper presents the design and analysis of a broad-band patch antenna using split ring metamaterial. The SRR metamaterial structures are embedded in a unique and novel way in the patch antenna, so that subwavelength modes get introduced in the patch ...

Potential Early Risk Biomarkers for Reduced Forced Expiratory Volume in Children Post‐Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We sought to identify potential early risk biomarkers for lung disease in children post‐allogeneic HCT. Patients with pulmonary function tests 3 months post‐transplant and plasma samples between days 7 and 14 post‐HCT were included. Six of 27 subjects enrolled had reduced forced expiratory volume 1 (FEV1) z scores.
