In finite-element (FE) models of the knee joint, patella is often omitted. We investigated the importance of patella and quadriceps forces on the knee joint motion by creating an FE model of the subject's knee. In addition, depthwise strains and stresses

Novel Anterior Plating Technique for Patella Fracture Fixation.
Orthopedics, 2017Patella fracture fixation remains a significant challenge for orthopedic surgeons. Although tension band fixation allows for reliable osseous union, especially in simple fracture patterns, it still presents several problems.

Osteomyelitis of the patella is an uncommon infection that is primarily a disease of childhood. The diagnosis frequently is delayed because of its rarity and variable presentation, which may be acute with systemic signs or insidious with mild local signs.

We report 15 cases of primary tumours and pseudotumours of the patella. The radiographic features and the surgical treatment of the different histological types are described in relation to Enneking's surgical staging and data derived from the literature.

Current Treatment Strategies for Patella Fractures.
Orthopedics, 2015Patella fractures can be caused by excessive tension through the extensor mechanism or a direct impact. Non-displaced fractures with an intact extensor mechanism can be treated nonoperatively.

A rare case of tuberculosis of the patella is presented. Diagnostic features include an osteolytic lesion in the patella with flaky sequestrum, associated with typical clinical features. Treatment should be urgent and should include a regimen of surgical debridement along with four antitubercular drugs.

The Knee, 2006
Osteoarticular tuberculosis is rare and affects the knee in about 8% of cases and the patella in less than 0.1%. This study reports a series of five patients who were immunologically competent but living in an endemic area for tuberculosis. Treatment with antituberculous therapy and early mobilization of the knee joint led to a successful outcome in ...

Patella position in the normal knee joint.
Radiology, 1971A method for deriving a more convenient expression of patella position than those currently in use is described. Lateral radiographs of 114 normal knees were measured and the diagonal length of the patella was compared with the length of the ligamentum ...

Interventions for treating fractures of the patella in adults.
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2015BACKGROUND Fractures of the patella (kneecap) account for around 1% of all human fractures. The treatment of these fractures can be surgical or conservative (such as immobilisation with a cast or brace). There are many different surgical and conservative
