Background: The medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) is the most important stabilizer of lateral dislocation of the patella. Single-limb (SL) and double-limb (DL) graft MPFL reconstructions have been increasingly used to treat recurrent patellar ...

Background: The management of adolescents with acute first-time patellar dislocation with an associated loose body remains a debated topic. The rate of recurrent dislocation in these patients may be up to 61% if the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL ...

Fixed (Congenital) Patellar Dislocation
Clinics in Sports Medicine, 2022Congenital dislocation of the patella is a rare condition characterized by lateral dislocation of the patella that is irreducible without surgical correction. Although there is no clear inheritance pattern, it is associated with several congenital syndromes. Patients often demonstrate flexion contracture, loss of active knee extension, increased tibial

Consensus-Based Guidelines for Management of First-Time Patellar Dislocation in Adolescents
Journal of pediatric orthopedicsBackground: The management of first-time patellar dislocation remains variable, with limited evidence to support or compare different operative and nonoperative modalities.

Background: The purposes of the present study were (1) to measure the tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove distance and its components with the knee in extension, (2) to determine their diagnostic performance in distinguishing between patients with and ...

Patellar dislocation in Kabuki syndrome
American Journal of Medical Genetics, 2002AbstractWe describe four individuals (two females and two males) with Kabuki syndrome and recurrent dislocation of the patella. The age of diagnosis of patellar dislocation ranged from 11 to 23 years. One individual underwent excision of the free fragment and transfer of the tibial tuberosity with good outcome.

Patellar Subluxation and Dislocation
2021Patellar subluxation/dislocation is common in children with an incidence of 11.9 to 43 per 100,000 (Keyes et al., Am J Orthop 47, 2018; Liu et al., Am J Sports Med 46:3299–306, 2017; Ries et al., J Knee Surg 28:265–78, 2015). It is a common cause of acute knee effusion with pain and discomfort, resulting in missed time from activity.
