Chronic patellar tendon rupture reconstruction with a semitendinosus autograft [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
SummaryChronic patellar tendon ruptures are somewhat rare, thus little work has been done in this area and their true incidence is not known. The management of a neglected, chronic patellar tendon rupture must address three difficulties: the proximally ...

Long-Term Outcomes in Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: A Systematic Review of Patellar Tendon Versus Hamstring Autografts. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: Much controversy still exists surrounding graft choice in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Over the past decade, an increase in comparative studies with longer follow-up has enhanced our understanding of current graft options ...

Anatomy, morphology and evolution of the patella in squamate lizards and tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The patella (kneecap) is the largest and best-known of the sesamoid bones, postulated to confer biomechanical advantages including increasing joint leverage and reinforcing the tendon against compression.

The vasculature and its role in the damaged and healing tendon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Tendon pathology has many manifestations, from spontaneous rupture to chronic tendinitis or tendinosis; the etiology and pathology of each are very different, and poorly understood. Tendon is a comparatively poorly vascularised tissue that relies heavily

Finite-element modelling of mechanobiological factors influencing sesamoid tissue morphology in the patellar tendon of an ostrich [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The appearance and shape of sesamoid bones within a tendon or ligament wrapping around a joint are understood to be influenced by both genetic and epigenetic factors.

Disruption of a Patellar Tendon Repair [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, 2012
The patient was a 38-year-old man evaluated by a physical therapist 14 weeks after repair of the left patellar tendon. The physical therapist requested radiographs, which revealed findings consistent with a patellar tendon retear. The radiologist recommended further evaluation with magnetic resonance imaging, which showed a left patellar tendon tear.

Association between patellar tendon moment arm and running performance in endurance runners

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2021
A shorter joint moment arm (MA) may help maintain the necessary muscle force when muscle contractions are repeated. This beneficial effect may contribute to reducing the energy cost during running.

Isolated tuberculosis of the patellar tendon

open access: yesThe Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 2007
Among the variety of differential diagnoses for chronic patellar tendinopathy, isolated tuberculosis is extremely rare. We report such a case, without any evident primary contiguous or distant focus, in a 31-year-old immunocompetent male.
