Loop Quantum Mechanics and the Fractal Structure of Quantum Spacetime [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We discuss the relation between string quantization based on the Schild path integral and the Nambu-Goto path integral. The equivalence between the two approaches at the classical level is extended to the quantum level by a saddle--point evaluation of ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Exact Path Integrals by Equivariant Cohomology

open access: yes, 1992
It is a common belief among field theorists that path integrals can be computed exactly only in a limited number of special cases, and that most of these cases are already known.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

6D trace anomalies from quantum mechanical path integrals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
We use the recently developed dimensional regularization (DR) scheme for quantum mechanical path integrals in curved space and with a finite time interval to compute the trace anomalies for a scalar field in six dimensions.

Deterministic Detection of Single Ion Implantation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Focused ion beam implantation with high detection efficiencies will enable the rapid and scalable fabrication of advanced spin‐based technologies such as qubits. This work presents the detection efficiencies of a wide range of ions implanted into solid‐state hosts, with efficiencies of >90% recorded for ion species and substrate combinations of ...

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Computing real-time quantum path integrals on Sewed, almost-Lefschetz thimbles

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
We present a method to compute real-time path integrals numerically, by Monte-Carlo sampling on near-Lefschetz thimbles. We present a collection of tools based on the Lefschetz thimble methods, which together provide an alternative to existing methods ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Remarks on the Origin of Path Integration: Einstein and Feynman

open access: yes, 2008
I offer some historical comments about the origins of Feynman's path integral approach, as an alternative approach to standard quantum mechanics. Looking at the interaction between Einstein and Feynman, which was mediated by Feynman's thesis supervisor ...
